iHome smartplug

PIECE

OF

shite

anyone actually able to set one up?

i've reset it about 12x. I used the iHome app on my VANILLA android Nexus 6 and it BRICKED my WiFi initially and I had to factory reset the phone as my WiFi got hung up on being connected to the iHome and after rebooting I couldn't enable WiFi at ALL. ARGH! I rebooted phone about 7x and left it overnight and finally had to completely reinstall android 7 from scratch (used WUG Nexus Root Toolkit to Thermonuclear wipe the phone completely for a fresh start.)

Anyway, even was on support call with iHome and they couldn't resolve it either, made sure I was on 2.4ghz network, that the plug was near the router, that my phone data was turned OFF (wtf?) and it still gives me an error after I put in my router passcode.

I'm about to take these PoS devices back to Walmart. Has anyone actually gotten them to work? I haven't even gotten it setup to the point I can try using it in Wink.

I'M frickING DONE.

I'VE HAD IT WITH IHOME.

RESET SWITCHES 117 TIMES.

TALKED TO 2 BOZOS at ihome support.

Crawled the internet.

fricked with wireless security settings on router and disabled 5ghz network.

Disabled cell data.

Reinstalled their frickING app about 20x.

Now I have to FACTORY RESET MY GODDAMN PHONE A SECOND TIME BECAUSE IT CRASHED MY WIFI AND I CAN'T GET IT BACK. EVEN RESETTING NETWORK SETTINGS DOESN'T WORK.

frick.IHOME.

I wouldn't wish this PoS on anyone.

First smart product I've given up on.

I haven't even gotten to the part where I add it to wink because it's so shitty.

Even if by some miracle I get it to work at this point if it goes out I'm not going through this hell again.

Now I get to frickING reset my phone again. See y'all in a couple hours

Their app is getting hammered on the play store. Someone said your wifi password can't have special characters.

Eta: got it added with my iphone easily. Could not get it connected with android.

:-/

Used my wife's iPhone. It was connected in 2 minutes.

Don't know why i hadn't thought of that and yes, my wifi passcode has lots of god awful symbols in it.

Eta the ihome app is light years better on iOS. Will never install on Android again.

To those of you that have a Schlage lock is there any setting that allows it to track when a door is opened or closed? Basically I'm asking can I use the lock as a sensor or do I need a physical sensor to use the door opening in robots.

You would need to use a sensor to detect open/close state.

Not sure if this has been covered already, but, if anyone is interested, I connected the original Wink hub as a secondary controller to my 2GIG alarm panel. I had read that the Wink hub wouldn't connect as a secondary controller, but it works for me. This has allowed me to use Alexa to control all my Z-wave things directly, rather than having to say, "Alexa, tell alarm.com to..." Only saves 5 words, but it's nice.

Everyone i have a fan related question. Currently i have 4 ceiling fans in my house. They are all on switches that control both the fan and the light. It is my understanding that there is not currently a Wink compatible switch that can control both the lights and fan speed at this moment. (even though i'm told one has been rumored to be forthcoming for a while) My question is if i am ok with controlling the fan speed on the device itself(i rarely change this), is their a switch that will allow be to turn on the power to lights(which would default the fan to whatever it was on last) and control the dimmamble light settings.

I just said frick it and threw some GE link bulbs in the fixture on my fan. I can turn them on/off independently of the fan and dim them.

how do you get the fan to turn on though? I could control the bulbs the way you envisioned but i was hoping there was a solution that would allow me to turn the whole device on and then control the light settings.

Smart switch. I then have a robot to turn the lights off when the fan comes on except certain times.

It means the lights come on with the fan and turn off 3-4 seconds later.

If anyone lives out on the sticks like me and uses propane, tankutility.com has a $35 off special on their smart propane gauge.

I wish i could get one because you have no idea how difficult it is to get to my tank especially with snow in the winter to check the level.

MC I picked up a few more ihomes. Now that you showed me the iPhone trick I'm not quite angry about them.

my FiL (who i got addicted to wink) picked up a W2 and kept both.

he just bought a new house with a huge separate building-- barn/workshop/guest house/entertainment area and so most of his older smart stuff stayed with the W1 and the W2 is in his main house he's adding stuff to. so far he said they've worked great together.

i'll probably do the wipe-and-go and sell my old W1 but i've been so busy i haven't had a chance to pick up the new hub yet (plus i'm waiting for the initial new firmware issues to die down a bit)
