Cad,
Have you tested the Lutron Maestro dual fan and dimmer switch? I've read good things but hear it is not compatible with LED bulbs even though many will still function.

i have not, but i can tell you i still have plenty of old school rotary dial dimmers in my house controlling all manner of LED bulbs without problems so take that with a grain of salt.
most newer LED bulbs dim just fine but even if it doesn't, just take it back and swap it for a different type until you find one you like.

Are there any of other types that exist? I was under the impression the maestro was the only available combined dimmer and fan control when the fan and light are on a single pole switch.
Well apparently i just read that the Lutron Dimmer/Fan Controls are not compatible with any home automation hubs. This defeats the purpose of what i was trying to do. For now i will hold off.

Bonus they also compute energy usage although one of mine isn't reporting it accurately.

That's retarded. I'm slowly buying more sensors and decided to go with packs of the gocontrol essentials (2 window/door sensors and 1 motion sensor). I don't need that many motion sensors but I'll use them outside and in the bedrooms to turn the lights off when they are unoccupied.

Motion sensors are awesome. Here are some tips:
- use them on outside gates..I painted mine with plastic black paint so they blend in and no issues in the year since I've installed them with weather. Battery life on the go controls and zwave range is insane. I'm getting 150ft range and haven't swapped a battery yet.
- attic access (I trip a ge link on a pulldown switch in the attic on open and off when closed)
- mailbox
- cabinet with dangerous chemicals
- gun safe on the outside
- liquor cabinet
- file cabinet - works best with wood cabinet not metal ones
- behind jewelry box so it goes off when you move out
Gun safe and jewelry box may sound dumb but it's trickier than you think to remove or take those items without tripping them.
Plus they tattletale if you tamper with them too.
I've been toying with the idea of keeping a unit hidden outside somewhere that trigger some action when I pull them apart but haven't gotten top far on that.

I started off with the gocontrol set that has the alarm when I saw it drop to almost $80. Had to get more sensors after that and I have about half of what I need for the windows and doors. Ended up finding that essential set for just over $40 so I plan on buying a couple sets each month or so.

email me at lsucollector@gmail.com. I have some kits that I've busted open, so I have several door sensors (new, just no longer in the kit box) for sale. Also, still have 2 premium kits in box.

Sent.
I don't need any more alarms, I'm triggering my CO/Smoke detector alarm to go off as well and my house is not that big.

Anyone have any updates on when the new wink hub will be released?

SmartThings $75 on amazon right now. Usually $100. Great price point.

Was wondering the same thing.

Great video!! Well worth the 11 minutes to watch.
Guy installs both NEURIO and SENSE whole-home energy monitoring systems, runs them in parallel and provides feedback. Best 'real world' video I've seen if you're thinking of getting into home energy monitoring.
SENSE unboxing vs NEURIO

they're all kind of wonky still.
there's great promise here.
anyone remember the early days of CDDB? i would put a CD into my computer drive, go to a website and magically it would TELL ME WHAT CD WAS IN MY COMPUTER INCLUDING TRACK NAMES!!
i thought that was damn scifi and it worked about 8/10 times (you could crowd-source edit CDDB back then)
that feels like where the energy-monitors are now..trying to index the energy-signatures of popular appliances, HVACs, etc.
will be really cool if they're able to do that..but its not nearly as sexy as making your music CDs come to life...

it looks like Sense is leading right now. And they are reserving the right to your data. going to sell it to appliance and energy companies.
So CAD, should i just say frick it and get one?
