So can you play movies on your Pixel and watch them through the Daydream headset for a movie like feel? I'm not talking about daydream apps like Hulu etc, because I would like to have this capability on flights where there is no streaming WiFi. Would be legit.

WTF? Why not have the same setup as the HTC 10? That's fricking ridiculous.

I don't get the point of daydream or Samsung VR. The power needed to run good VR isn't possible through a phone. Sure some low quality 360 videos and shitty demo things might be ok for some, but they are no oculus or vive. Doesn't surprise me they are dumping the goggles for free.

I was damn near sold on this phone before the launch, but the more I think about it, I cannot justify spending $650 + tax (would go with 5") for the phone when 1) my OnePlus One is going strong and CM is keeping it updated and 2) the Xiaomi Mi5s has the same specs including Snapdragon 821 and starts at $300.

Gone are the days of affordable phones from Google. Especially that the 6p started at what, $499? That's a steep increase

ETA: Mi5s starts at $389, but $480 for 4GB RAM w/ 128GB storage

You are not looking at all the features offered. You get exclusive android OS designed for Pixel with quick updates, a free VR headset, the best rated camera, and FREE unlimited FULL RES 4k video/picture storage for life. That's just some of the perks. I respect your stance on the price of the phone. Google put a lot into this launch and the phones are of superb build quality. They pack all of the things that the other high tier flagships carry and then some. The Xiaomi is not on that level. Yeah it has some of the same major components like processor and such, but the poor LTE support kills it for most people. Don't get me wrong the pricing and features are good, but they're strangled by the software and poor lte support.

I'm sorry, are you Michael Phelps? Do you normally swim laps with your 800 dollar smartphone? I have NEVER submerged my phone ever. From the original iphone to when I made the switch to Android etc. I have always had a protection plan and never once had to use it. But that is my waterproof right there. Insurance. Why in the mother of frick are some of you so hell bent on the waterproof angle? It has enough water resistance rating to check the thing in a light rain or spill something and immediately wipe it off. Do you really need to go deep sea diving with it? Well then it may not be the device for you then.

I should have mentioned I was buying the Lifx smart bulbs for the multicolor aspect of it.

Also, thanks to you and CAD for basically telling me that, at this point, SmartThings and Wink are on par with each other. Since Google Home supports SmartThings right off the bat, I guess I'll stick with it for now.

Can anyone chime in?

Because it is nice to not have to need insurance and be able to use your phone in the rain without worry. I was very jealous of waterproofing when Samsung had it. It's a damn nice feature and some people want it. If it was offered to you on pixel, wouldn't you be super glad to have it?

Its definitely nice to have, but not a dealbreaker if it doesn't. Insurance not only covers water damage, but cracks and breaks too, which surely happens a lot.

Although, there is a $79 deductible. Not crazy expensive to replace. Waterproof would make this phone a home-run imo.

home doesn't support zwave or zigbee correct?

you're going to need a wink or ST hub and the commercial electric smart downlights are compatible with wink (not sure about ST) and run about $30 each

LINK

but you may want to consider a smart dimmer instead in this type of application because i think you can get one supported natively by google home and skip all the smart hub nonsense. (yeah i said that)

Sure, it would be nice. But it is not a deal breaker feature. Screen, processor, camera, no headphone jack (apple). Now those are more deal breaker features to me.

People that complain about old tech (sd card) or gimmick options (wireless charging) deserve the misery of a samsung device.
