What antenna would you recommend Witt this TV fool report? I want to pick up as many stations as I can.
I would prefer not to mount it on some crazy tall mast and my attic is not very tall.

I live in saint gabriel. We bought a hd attena but could not catch cbs and the lady at radio shack told me the rabbit ears are the best. She said the cbs tower is the farthest from where I live. She said they might not look flashy like the others but it's the strongest signal u can get. I paid $7 for the rabbit ears and I was able to watch college football on Saturdays and nfl on Sundays. I returned the hd antenna that I paid $45 and got my money back and saved $38.

Wow, tons of info in this thread that's a bit overwhelming. One question, do you guys that have all the various boxes etc. just have to deal with a ton of different remotes?

Ditched cable about 3 years ago and haven't missed a beat.
10 year old RCA 52"
HDTV antenna
Roku 3
Home computer with free Plex app
Private Internet Access VPN
Network news & sporting events on antenna. Everything else (movies, shows, series) torrented and beamed from computer to Roku and into the TV. Only part I had to cheat on was using a family member's ESPN login.

Logitech Harmony IR remotes are a great way to prevent this. I use the 700 model. Found it used on Amazon for around $55.

Question about antennas...if I live in a good area to catch locals fairly easy, what antenna would be an inexpensive reliable one to purchase?
If you have VHF channels 1-13 in your area be certain that you get an antenna that picks up both UHF and VHF. Some antennas these days are for UHF only. My experience with the flat leaf type antennas has not been good. I've gotten better results with a plain old rabbit ears. If you have access to your attic consider a basic RCA ANT type antenna like THIS ONE.

I've been thinking about this for a long time and the time has come. Our Dish service will be disconnected on April 4.
We are minimizing transition shock and getting in the new habit by watching as much tv through the new setup. This is why I paid for Dish service until April 4.
Total Dish bill $107
Internet (existing): ATT Xtreme 6.0 - 6Mbps
Set Up #1 - Living Room
Samsung 46" Smart TV (no internal wifi)
Add-Ons: GE Flat Panel Amplified TV Antenna - $11.79 (target online)
Google Chromecast - $32.49 (target online)
Set Up #2 - Master bedroom
Vizio" Smart TV (internal wifi)
Add-Ons: GE Flat Panel Amplified TV Antenna - $11.79 (target online)
The Plan
I don't watch much television outside of live sporting events which can be caught on local channels, WatchESPN, or SECN+.
The wife watches all of her shows on DVR being she can never catch them at their normal times due to work and the kids. All of her shows can be watched via the antenna, Huluplus (a day later which isn't a problem), or CBS All Access.
During the early evenings the main television in the living room is usually airing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, PawPatrol, or some other kid friendly movie. These are all available via Amazon Prime Instant Video and being they don't mind re-runs we'll just buy the current or past season for the same price we currently pay to purchase a DVD. So this cost is a wash.
The plan will be to get the kids in the habit of watching their shows in the master bedroom when one of us has something we'd like to watch in the living room but in the end it really doesn't matter because we'll be able to access any of our shows, at any time, on either TV.
Operation
Main tv will be controlled with the television remote for the over-the-air channels
Shows which require HuluPlus, WatchESPN, or SECN+ will be cast from either the laptop or one of our phones to the TV via the wi-fi and Google ChromeCast.
Master bedroom TV will be controlled entirely with the TV remote being it has internal Wi-Fi.
Cost Savings
Equipment Purchase: $11.79 x 2 + $32.49 = $56.07
Current Dish: $107
CBS All Access $5.99 / month
HuluPlus: $7.99 / month
1st Month Savings:
$107 - $11.79 - $11.79 - $32.49 - $5.99 - $7.99 = $36.95
2nd Month - Forever Savings:
$107 - $13.98 = $93.02
Cons
Channel surfing is not the same. No more stumbling upon those cool shows on Discovery Investigation, NATGEO, History, etc.
Most of my hunting shows are not available online. I can get over this and just stick to reading the magazines.
All shows will be available while on the go...kids can watch their shows while we travel.
Pros
$1,116.24 in yearly savings

Get a amazon fire tv box with xbmc. Watch tv shows and movies old and new and some live tv all for freeeeeeeeeeeee lol I love it
Posted on 3/3/15 at 8:48 am to CroTigerXIII
Does that internet speed keep up with your streaming?
Posted on 3/3/15 at 9:24 am to CroTigerXIII
Your wasting your time with the flat panel antennas. Also I recommend a TiVo if you want the ability to have a DVR and a guide like you traditionally have.
Also if you want the ability to still watch history, a&e, your wife lifetime I suggest getting firesticks over chromecast. Must better platform and better app presentation and no reliability on another device for it to really work well.

+ 1 on Tivo, just get one off of ebay with a lifetime sub.
Does firestick have a "lifetime" app so my wife can watch housewives or whatever, if we have a login?

It has the app and she can watch most of the shows without a login. Just have to watch commercials.

So apparently a good business to go into is to re-sell my watchespn login?
$100/year to anyone who wants it.

Just starting to research this, so thanks for all of the advice already posted.
Just curious on thoughts on roku vs fire. Does roku allow you to out kodi on it? Also, would a player be better on main tv with a stick on the others?

Not sure about Roku. I am sure it does. I do know the side loading Kodi on the firestick/TV takes less than 5 minutes to do and very easy.
Also, for a main tv with surround sound use the full version, in bedrooms without surround sound use stick.
