A couple of questions for the nvidia shield tv owners out there:

1) Does the nvidia shield tv remote still work as an active google home device? So mine doesn't seem to be responding at all to "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" passively. Now, if I click the little assistant button, it works, but just curious if Google/nVidia killed the passive listening?

2) Anyone have the new shield tv 2019 model? It looks like the only upgrade is the upscaling but wondering if that's worth shelling out the money for that 1 feature?

passive listening on the remote? i wouldnt think it would be a positive on having the mic on all the time due to the size of the remote and it battery. if it was passive you would be charging it constantly.

nope.. i will get one when i get a new tv

Yea it used to work this way and then google killed it? It was finicky but my shield game controller worked as a google home mini, in essence.

ah i never noticed that. I wish the remote was better, i havent looked at the newer remote. i hate the volume control is the touch sensor. i want dedicated buttons for it.

New remote has dedicated buttons for all that and does away with the shitty slide control for volume.

Is it worth the 30$ or whatever it is to upgrade the remote and use the 2017 version of the Shield TV?

I actually don't mind the current remote but haven't used the new one yet.

i would be for me. but idk if i like the triangular prism shape

I also which it had more hot keys you can program to do things besides the netflix one.

also upon that quick google search, looks like there are a ton of aftermarket remotes.... i might like this.

I just use my Shield gaming controller 99% of the time over the remote on the 2017 Shield. More buttons and the volume slider actually works.

The remote is great. The triangle shape isn't how I'd design it, but you get used to it. It's a very minor gripe.
