i feel like he isnt even listening though. i dont know how many times we've told them there is not an extra step. You only have to put in a passcode as a backup. He just keeps saying he likes the one step of the power button, but the fingerprint is one step too and much quicker.

I've had an android device for like a week. The finger print options all had something by them. It wasn't clear to me that those were not required. I have it set now and it works. Thanks.

That's great. There's got to be a fix. Oh well. I'm keeping it a year and getting something else anyway.

I'm running the pixel ROM on 7.1.1 and it's been fantastic four the Nexus 5x. Battery life is much better and it's smoother.

Just did this on my Nexus 6. Can already tell a difference

My phone has frozen once since doing this yesterday morning. So i don't think it fixed my issue.

I wasn't having any problems, but did it anyway now that the settings wheel shows up. It's not there if you have security set to none.

sounds like you need to RMA your device
you bought within this last year, right?

honestly, if you are remotely handy, just download WUG's Nexus Root Toolkit and do a full-on factory reset (bonus is you can unlock and root the phone at the same time) and you'll get a better-than-new phone.
its step-by-step so its virtually impossible to screw up the reset.
i've fixed more phones this way...

how is that different from a standard factory reset?

i bet its been about a year. Can't remember exactly. Wife's 5x phone is only a couple of months old. Bought off swappa.

you have more options to kill davilik cache & other things and get a fresh copy of nougat (maybe your factory image is bad) so you're truly wiping your phone.
factory reset is only as good as the (flawed) image you already have on your phone.
every once in awhile a bad system image gets pushed out to phones by google.

i see, well if you bought it from google, youll be able to see the date of purchase, if you go into the play store
def seems like you need a new device, id be pretty pissed.
ive done an RMA before and the issue was resolved.

10-4. I'll look into it.

post here or email me (let me know you emailed me) with questions. i've done a zillion of these.
take your time and go through the process carefully (select google's fastboot drivers) and you'll end up with a better phone when done.
99% of the time a NRT reset with new factory image solves all your problems unless its truly a hardware issue.

im certainly not happy. However, the little fix stated in the OP seems to have helped some. Only frozen once so far in 24 hours. it was doing it 4-5 a day beforehand. But its only been a day. I'm going to give it a couple of more and see if this truly did help.
If in 72 hours the situation is still persisting I'm going to to a root reset like CAD suggested.
