New Firestick is absurdly slow - alternatives?

Going to be returning this device tomorrow. Couldn’t stream anything without low frame rates or needing to buffer. Dropped the connection a few times too.
Old Firestick (purchased in 2015) had zero connectivity issues but the interface got so slow that it took a good five minutes just to load an app.
Is this just a dud Firestick or should I look into an alternative streaming device?
Price range would be less than $100.

Sounds like either a dud with bad wifi, or you've got something happening with your connection.
That said, with a budget that high I would personally get a Roku Ultra, either a refurb 2018 model for ~$70 or this year's model for ~$100.
The sticks are already underpowered, but Amazon DGAF and tries to load them down with tons of ads and visuals and shite, and it's just awful. Roku keeps it simple, and their devices stay snappy.

I hardwired all of my fire sticks and they work like a dream. Never had a problem. I’ve got a Nvidia Shield too which is nice.

Hardwire it. Did with my new one and it’s pretty flawless.

Is this a Firestick or Firestick 4k?
I hear lots of complaints from owners of the 1st gen dual core and very few from 2nd gen quad core and 4k owners -

Works perfectly for you tube, Netflix.

If it's the 4k stick, then it's a dud or something is wrong with your internet. That's the fastest MFer in such a small size.

Im betting this is just a dud or you have connection issues.
We just bought two new firesticks and a small Insignia TV with it built in.
All 3 of those are faster than our old firestick and firetv. Like way way faster.

Must not be a 4k stick. Have 6 of them streaming everything with a crappy at&t modem/wifi and not missing a beat with only 50mbps. Waiting for fiber!!

My girlfriend had a firestick when I first started dating her. It was horrible! Slow to boot, constantly having to enter her PIN.
Bought her a Roku, works 1000x better.

Well it’s my connection. Plugged in my old Firestick and had the same issues.
Calling Charter about it.

first tell us how far away this fire stick is from your router.
