New Construction - What security or camera system

I am at the point in building a new house where I need to decide whether or not to wire for a security system. I have read through many threads and still trying to finalize how we should proceed.
Obviously there are a ton of options. Curious what the board would recommend if you are at this point?
My initial thought was to just wire for some sort of Reolink or smart camera system, but not positive. Appreciate any feedback.

I know zero about traditional coax or similar based cameras. But isn’t the easy answer just to put Cat6 anywhere you think you’ll need a camera, and run it back to wherever you’re going to put all of your networking gear, including at least one PoE switch?

I'd put wires at least to all windows and doors for alarm sensors. Even if you don't use them they are a pain in the arse to install post construction.
Put Ethernet wires to everyplace you might want a camera. Same as the alarm wires, you may not use them but you will be glad they are there.

Yep this is the easy answer. Leave about a 10 foot coil of cat6 at each corner of the roof, including "inside" corners, and home run them all to your media closet (you'll have a media closet in this new construction, right?).

For camera systems, I would also add some sort of wire that you can use to fish other wires through. Not all cameras have an ethernet cable option. Not sure what my connection is called (RCA connection???), but it's a white wire (realize color of wire is irrelevant) with a blue & red connection. That is how I run my power and the feed back to the DVR.

UniFi for home network and security system. A bit pricey but worth every penny.
For security, I have a 8TB hard drive in it that requires no subscription.
Cat 5 cable is all you need unless you are going further than 100 meters.

Those are BNC connectors, and they're becoming dated at this point. In this day and age, I'm not using anything that isn't POE.

You have to think about future proofing and there isn't that much cost difference between Cat5 and Cat6.

quote:There is no cable spec'd for more than 100 meters. That's not to say no cable will work on runs longer than that, because they can and do. Some PoE source equipment like Uniview models with "extended transmission" mode will work up to about 300 meters over cat5e.
