I have some software that requires a USB Serial Port.

When I go into Device Manager to add it, under Ports (COM & LPT) USB serial port is not an option.

Any ideas on how to get a USB serial port on my Windows 10 laptop?

You mean a DB9 connection to your laptop?

Amazon Link

This may be what you're looking for. It's a USB to serial cable, I have one and use it all the time for work. The drivers should automatically download when you plug it in, and that should show up under "Ports (COM & LPT)."

No, my connector at laptop is USB but other end is serial. It connects to an outboard motor.

Plug it into your laptop. If it doesn't show up in device manager, or it shows up with the warning icon (yellow triangle), you need to install the correct device drivers.

The problem is it’s not an option in device manager. Ports are not present in device manager, you need to add them as legacy equipment. When I try and do that, USB to serial is not an option.

It will show up as a standard COM Port in device manager.

you just need to install the drivers for that model of USB to serial converter. The most common ones use an FTDI chipset, but hard to know without the model number.

Plus FTDI drivers are usually included with Windows.
