What should I look at in terms of a laptop or tablet for my kids to use for homework assignments and school work?
These would be used for searching the web...using Google Docs, email, papers...etc......
Any help is appreciated

If google drive apps are sufficient, a chromebook would probably be perfect

You can get a basic Chromebook for $200. The school my youngest goes to dropped Macs for Chromebooks this fall. I have a son in college that uses one. I use one.

Anyone have any ~$500 chromebook suggestions? Seems like what I am finding is either dirt cheap or goes up to the $1k range.

I thought I saw that the Google Pixelbook was going to have a Black Friday sale for 600$ down from 999$.

Samsung Pros should be in that range, but I'd pay a little more for the pixel book if you can get it for 600 like the poster above mentioned.

Thanks guys, think I'll try to catch a BF deal.
Quick question, what are the photo editing options on the Chrome OS? Do the Chromebooks use the Play Store? Can you load any Windows apps? I had one of the first chromebooks years ago, and it was just a glorified web browser.

Google Photos would be a free option to edit existing photos. Adobe and Microsoft are slowly making "lite" versions of their various products that can run as apps on Chromebooks.

I use the web apps for Word, Excel, etc. without any problems. I'm an old timer who still has his Hotmail acct from 1996 and all the Office stuff is right there all the time.
