Need a console upgrade: Xbox or PS?

I know it’s been talked about but a lot of older threads may have outdated info. So I’m wondering now that the systems have been out for awhile now, which did you guys choose and why?
My background:
I grew up on PS and didn’t play Xbox until like 2006 when I played Halo. (Which I hated… the shields, the way too futuristic gameplay/graphics)
I’m not even the certain what game I bought Xbox for, maybe GTA? But I have been playing it ever since and haven’t played almost anything on PS in probably almost 15+ years.
I guess I’m wondering a few things, overall experience, online play, game selection, when next version to drop…
Basically why you chose what you did and how you’ve come to enjoy or regret it…
Thanks boys.
eta: Lately I’ve fallen in love with the realistic battle Royale games like PUBG and on switch, BoTW and TotK had me crazy invested/addicted.

There's a lot of console dick measuring, but it's mostly going to come down to one thing: do you care about PlayStation exclusive games? If you do, you should probably buy a PS5. If you don't, pick whichever you can find for cheaper.
And don't buy a Series S.

If you aren't set on the PS5 exclusives, you can't beat the Series X and Gamepass

What are some solid PS-centric games? I just googled and the results were just as you’d imagine

Off the top of my head the big modern ones are Horizon, God of War, Spiderman, Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, anything from FromSoft (Sekiro, Bloodborne, Demon Souls remaster), and I'm sure I'm missing some others.
Actually, feel free to just skim this

We have both systems in my home. My oldest son plays the Series X mostly because of Pass. However, he likes the PS5 exclusives like Spiderman, according to him, those games are "funner." My 5 year old likes playing that robot game that comes with the PS5 along with Crash and some other child friendly games.
All in all, the PS5 gets more play time in my house.

I just got a Series X and I'm liking it so far. Before that I had a PS4 and a Xbox 360 before that. From what I have gathered, if you really like that PlayStation exclusive games, you should get a PS5. But this is my first time having Gamepass and it has a ton of games to play, so I'm happy with the Xbox.

If PUBG is important to you I can say this, PUBG seems to be bigger on Xbox than PS. Probably because it was out way longer on Xbox before coming to PS. By the time PS was able to play the skill gap between new and seasoned was great, which probably led to a lot of frustration and less PS people sticking with it. There also seems to be a stigma against PS players in duos/squads, which again I think goes back to the skill gap when PS players first came on board (they were trash) and the fact they can't join parties. Which leads into the next point, PS players can't join Xbox parties. If you are going to be playing Duos/Squads and because the player base seems to skew heavily Xbox, you'll probably want to be on Xbox for the party ability alone. You are going to want to find some regular teammates and game chat with randoms is kinda dead. I say all this as an Xbox PUBGer so my observations may be skewed by me being on that platform, or the above may be the way things actually are.

I don't want to confuse you. But here are my thoughts (they will kinda be all over the place).
Recently, you could get the Series X for a better price than the PS5. I have a PS5. I love the Spiderman Games, Horizon series, Ghost of Tsushima, and I've always been a PS guy. PS+ sucks balls. I built a PC and had PC Game Pass for a few months. Game Pass has better quality games as well as day one releases. Way more than PS+, IMO.
I also recently purchased a Xbox Elite 2 controller to play on PC and, would you know it, I am starting to like the feel of the Xbox controller better.

Go with PS5 if you like football games like Madden or PS5. The football gaming community on Xbox is weak as frick
