You just going to slap an Alienware sticker on it?

1k is cheap for Alienware gaming laptops. Most are closer to 2k.

The "better" ones START at 2K, their top of the line is $4K! I'm sure there are a few more bells and whistles you can add to it to get the price even higher.
Sadly Alienware is not even the true high end of laptops, Dell has some custom configurations that will top $8K.

Build a desktop. If he’s insistent on a gaming laptop, look at MSI.

We bought our son an Alienware gaming laptop about 5-6years ago, and it has worked great. I spec'd it out pretty well with 1440p screen res, SSD, 16 gb RAM, and that was way more than $1k.
He outgrew it eventually and built his own gaming PC with newer and faster components, and now the Alienware is mine.
Since then, Dell bought Alienware for the purpose of having a specialty gaming PC division.
You have tons of other laptop options out there though.

tell him a gaming laptop will sound like a jet engine and run at like 90C all the time and throttle the hardware
get him a desktop
and fyi, be prepared for him to waste a ton of his life away on it

Tell your son real gamers play on desktop. And that I'll throttle him 1v1.
