Did something to his computer. It's got to be something with drivers but here's the problem, the network card he has is wired only. Well the driver for the network card is not working. I can't plug in a WiFi USB adapter because the usb drivers aren't working. All of the existing usb devices are working but if i plug anything in new in any port it doesn't even detect it.
Any ideas on how to fix this mess before i just factory reset it all.

I'd try uninstalling the network card in device manager. Windows will reinstall with recommended drivers.

I got one of those.
What the guy above said. Start with the generic drivers and then get the correct one.

You should come here with the problem instead of saying “it must be the drivers”. maybe not.

He had somehow set it to selective start up. I changed it to normal and boom all problems solved.

Probably just frustration boiling over in an online forum.
I did silly stuff with my parents computer in the mid to late 90s and my dad would just force me to fix it.
It really made me think about "trying X" and did that work? Nope, ok, well, try Z, etc. until it did get fixed.
In a weird way, helped my problem solving skills for technology that I use daily now.

Had an impulsive one myself. He punched his laptop display. We replaced it on his dime. Now works in IT.

I have 2 of those, kid across the street helped the youngest build a PC for gaming. Now I give him 20$ when we need help. Kids across the street is not an idiot like mine. So that is helpful
