I am building a house and am going to wire for surround sound in the living room and have speakers put in on the back porch.

I currently have a Yamaha surround sound setup that works great but need something to separate the zones if need be (don’t want to be blasting whatever movie to my neighbors).

Anyone have any good recommendations? This is the only one I have been tempted to buy. [LINK ]

Btw, most of my entertainment will probably run through it. I have Apple TV/firestick and use directv now. I’ll be able to route it all up to the tv through 1 hdmi cable. There is easy access if I need to do other things.

J/k just make sure you buy something that actually has separate zones and not just an a/b selector. There should be plenty of options for whatever your budget is. I’m sure that Yamaha will do just fine.

I loved the interface of Sonos when a camp I rented had them setup inside and out. But damn that’s expensive.

are you putting a TV on that back porch with those speakers or just using the speakers as a music zone on the porch?

I am putting a tv but haven’t really thought about if I will connect it to the speakers or not. I could see a benefit to hooking them up.

you will need a 2 zone VIDEO receiver for that if you want to watch 2 different things in the zone and hear 2 different programs.

I ended up going with the receiver linked in the OP.

I considered going with the newer one that had 2 hdmi out but couldn’t justify the $200 extra. I have a firestick I can stick on the outdoor tv and just run tv output back to the receiver if I really want tv sound on the outdoor speakers (zone2).

I tested everything before putting it away until the house is finished building and it works like a champ and should be able to do everything I want. It has a solid phone app to control everything from.

One thing I I would like is if it could play directly from my plex server off the home laptop. It recognizes it but says access denied when I try to play music. However it will play from whatever server windows automatically sets up in network sharing so I can’t complain too much.

Did you get recessed speakers? Im currently looking at these and cant figure out what I need without breaking a budget. Something that gets me through.

Congrats on the purchase. I have 2 weeks left to do mine before the sheetrock comes in so Im figuring out how to wire.

That’s a debate I am having with myself now for the back patio since I already have speakers for the living room (not recessed).

I am leaning towards not recessed for outdoor as well. Easier to deal with if inever have to change them out.

I’m lucky though because my attic access is right next to the wall behind the entertainment center and about 10-15 feet from the patio so should be easy for me to work on if I change my mind.

I have a Denon that has served me well as far. It’s all wired though, not Bluetooth.

Im looking at a denon right now. This one to be exact. It has exactly what I want including dual video zones and alexa enabled, etc. The good news I can wait on this receiver until oct/Nov when I will actually need it and the price will be down. I just need the damn speakers to setup

LINK

However, I might go the cheaper route and just buy 2 receivers for my setup. I could save about 600 bucks and replace what I need it it breaks.

That looks like a newer version of mine. The only thing I would recommend is that when you wire it up, label the wires with a sharpie at the end of the wire next to the hook up at the receiver. This will be extremely helpful if you ever have to undo it all.

We replaced the floors in our living room. My MIL and wife took it all apart when I wasn’t home. I had to get up in the attack and basically rerun everything to know where to put it all back together .

Oh yes labeled everything as I am going. Like I said I can go with this one receiver for 1400 or 2 okyno/denon lower end and do the same thing. I got several runs of cat5/coax in every room coming into one spot in the house where my rack will go. Looks like garbage now but once everything gets terminated will be good to go. My receiver needs to be alexa enabled with amazon music. Thats what my house will be using is alexa.

i have a denon avr x3200w

dual zone video/audio

it works well for my setup which is 5.1 in the living room, and stereo speakers/tv on the back porch, which is used as zone 2.

i can play directv/firetv or any input I have connected to the receiver in the cabinet to my outside TV, independent of whats playing in the living room. There are models with more features, but none that i really feel like I'm missing.

The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to play music on the back patio, with video on the TV. I can do that in the living room just fine, but can't seem to get it to work on zone 2.

i can't say i would be of much help

my house already had some bose in-ceiling speakers, and I had no real interest in replacing them

i'm not an audiophile at all, but more a fan of electronics and the like

Wellll now that I’ve seen that website, I’m having second thoughts!

I could send the one linked in the OP back to amazon and get the TSR-7790 which has 2 hdmi out if I ever wanted games on both TVs at the same time. After shipping the return and getting the new one I would save $50.

The only negative I can see is that it is a 2 yr older model but seems to have all the same features.

What are yalls thoughts?
