Mounted Microwave

So our microwave started making a LOUD noise when it runs and will not heat food. Looking up over the range microwaves are in the 600+ $ range. Whey are they so much more than a counter top one. Am I looking up something wrong?
Model in question is GE JVM6172SK2SS S# DL212953B

Probably because they have to be mounted and likely include a vent fan.

We were looking at these recently....can anyone tell me an upside to having the microwave drawer mounted? Seems super inconvenient in general with handling food, not to mention for anyone over 6' tall.

The upside is that you save counter space.
Also, the interior can hold large size containers and the unit heats and cleans very well.
Just installed a Sharp unit and the cost is high at about $1,200 because Sharp holds the patent.
Regardless of the manufacturer, you're essentially buying a Sharp unit because of the licensing.
We had cabinets made so it fits where we wanted it.
You may want to go into a locally owned appliance store an check out the height. The store we visited had the unit mounted in a standard height kitchen cabinet.

I've never seen one with a carousel in it, though.

Kids can reach it.

I like my microwave to be built into the cabinet. The options are pricey but there's usually a frigidaire that is around $250 to $350.
I don't really get the microwave over the stove thing. You need ventilation for the stove. It does save counter space and looks cleaner which is great but that's a precarious location.

Those have vents built in. What’s to “get?”

What I don't get is why they are so desired.
