Motherboard stuck in loop

Friend of mine has a Gigabyte MB B460 that is stuck in a boot loop. Need help.
This is what he has tried.

This is what he has tried.

Tried f10
Tried loading optimized defaults
Watched a bunch of YouTube vids changing a few settings that also didn’t work.
I did update my drivers through nvidia and had windows updates I installed either that day or night before. Don’t know if that could have done anything

I'm not sure what "optimized defaults" are, but I see xmp enabled, so my first piece of advice would be to straight up clear cmos. Once he's done that, I would want more information regarding where, exactly, it loops.

And if he's able to get into bios, I have a bad feeling that he caught one of those nasty, stupid windows updates. Can he get into Windows system repair?

I'm not sure, how would he do the clear CMOS and windows repair

The how re: clearing cmos is motherboard specific. Do you know his *exact* motherboard?
And depending on how far he can get in boot, you generally hit f11 like a crazy person to enter windows repair.

Ok, so tell him to try Windows repair first, because if he doesn't know how to clear cmos, this might be a little intimidating on this particular board:
In the bottom right corner, you should see the big F_Panel connector. Just above that, you should see CLR_CMOS. So, if he still has the jumper that came with the board, he should power everything down and put the jumper over those two pins. Assuming he lost the jumper (everyone loses the jumper), he needs to short those two pins by bridging them with a piece of metal. Most people use a screw driver. Yes, again, seriously. Just place a flathead screwdriver down so that it's touching both of the pins at the same time, and hold it for about five seconds, then remove said handy dandy screw driver. Then power back up.
But, for someone with his level of sophistication, I would try windows repair first. This sounds like some fricky Windows nonsense. Or that he fricked up his gpu driver, but unfortunately, his motherboard doesn't appear to have post codes of any kind, which makes troubleshooting difficult (read: a fricking pain in the arse).

He tried the f11 and nothing happens. I looked it up and he might try f8 or shift + f8.

Depending on how fricked the boot loop is, you might not get far enough for the hot key to work. Assuming he (or you) have access to a working computer, you can put a boot image of windows on a thumb drive. You can create it with first party Miscrosoft software (LINK ). Assuming he can still make it into bios, he can change the boot order to boot from the installation media. There are very, very few ills a fresh install of Windows can’t cure. And at that point, the rest of the ills can be cured by clearing cmos. And if you still can’t boot, you have a dead component. But we will cross that bridge if/when we come to it.

He hasn't tried it yet. He has a new baby and that's taking a lot out of his time. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.

First time someone told me to jump a motherboard with a screw driver, I absolutely thought they were fricking with me. Then I relived that feeling again sometime later when I was told to jump a PSU with a paper clip

I'm enjoying reading this thread since I've only ever done the BIOS thing.
I did have my heatsink fall off my CPU in college which prohibited booting. Smashed a paperclip in there to hold it down and that held for years until the PC was no longer of service to me. That was probably against code

Hey, if it works, it works
How are you, Teddy? Still rocking the credit card game?

The paper clip is about twice the diameter of the previous wire so the thing is like super-charged and could fry chicken in it now.

How are you, Teddy?
For better or worse sure am. Got Gold and Plat late last year. Got that 100k Plat 10x grocery deal.
Anyway, used my canceled Japan trip ANA miles to fly Turkish Air to Croatia for July this year. Will see what happens. I'm over it

You getting back on the travel bike soon?

Hopefully. Things have been crazy at work. And because we were house shopping, I dropped out of the card game for the most part, so we "only" have like 150k UR
Probably have the wife jump on that 80k CSP intro and see about doing something domestic (Maybe NYC, it's been a couple of years) in the next six months, and something international in the next 12 months or so. While we were leaning towards the more exotic end before covid happened, we might want to play any near term international trips on the safe side. Hell of a lot easier to be in France if another round of covid pops than it is, say, India. We definitely live in interesting times.
At least I got my gaming pc built before things really went to hell, so that's been helping a little bit
