Mesh help for Starlink
Posted on 8/29/22 at 5:26 pm

I am currently looking into installing a mesh network. My home is 2400 Sq ft, with pool house 3500 sq ft, and outdoor kitchen/deck area 4800-5000 sq ft.
Currently, I lose speed due to the network connection on the west end, east (pool house), and south (outdoor kitchen). Network to router in last test was 90 Mbps upload while device to network was 53 Mbps upload in my usual area in which I hang out. This is a top end example for both upload types.
Looking at Starlink plug-n-play, $130 per unit. I’m also reading up about Tp-link xe75, $400 3-pack.
I want seamless full signal network signals over my whole area.
My tech knowledge is below average to average. So, I want something that is fairly easy to connect and manage.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Do you currently use the Starlink system and router?
If so, go with Starlink integrated Mesh system. It will work seamlessly with your setup and controlled from the Starlink app.
Outside of that will require a bit more setup, particularly with Starlink.

I don't have starlink but are you allowed to use personal routers/mesh routers with starlink?

Pretty sure starlink device has modem/router builtin, plus you need the proprietary plug to connect a switch to it (from what i recall)

Don't buy another Starlink router. That's a ripoff. You'd have to buy probably four of them to cover all your square footage.
Go to Starlink's website, and for $25 you can get an ethernet adapter which allows you to use a 3rd party mesh system. I bought a 3 pack of the Deco mesh routers from Amazon for $125 or so. I've also used the Google mesh system, but prefer the Deco because the UI is way cleaner and it's easier to adjust settings within the app.
After you get the ethernet adapter and your mesh pucks, go into your Starlink app and put the Starlink router in bypass mode. It's all super easy to do.
ETA: Wait until the mesh system is connected and you are connected to them before putting your Starlink router in bypass mode.

Do you happen to know which model Deco?
Did you have any regrets about not being able to use the Starlink app?

I have these.

What do you mean? You still use the Starlink app even if you use a 3rd party mesh system. The main Starlink router is still used and is still the device that's connected to your Starlink dish. The Deco mesh routers are simply used to broadcast the wifi signal.

First, thanks for the info.
Second, I’ve read in different places that when I bypass the Starlink router, the app no longer functions. If this is not the case, it makes me lean more towards your setup. I have the square dish that needs the ethernet adapter attached to the router. My adapter is currently hook into a DirecTv box. I would add an unmanaged switch to add in the Deco.
Do you have the round dish or square?
Seriously hoping you have the square and the app stuff I’ve read is not correct.

The app no longer functions as a network setup, a la wireless name and password areas will be greyed out. The starlink app will still be used to check uptime, interferences and stow/unstow the dish.

Thanks for the input.

That's it. All app functionality is still there, even when you are using your own mesh setup. You just don't have the wi-fi features from the Starlink router active any longer in the app, because they are no longer needed. A 3rd party mesh system is the better option.
I have the square dish.

Many thanks to you as well. I think y’all’s help sealed it for a Deco mesh setup.
