I was just wondering if anyone has a 13in MBP with or without touchbar. Are they good for college students and do you like it. Pros/cons?

Thanks

It's been a few years since I was in college, so the touchbar wasn't an option, but it's an absolutely perfect computer for most college students.

One important question - will the student be majoring in engineering or finance or anything likely to use software that is exclusive to PC users? That is a deterrent.

If you're on a budget, I'd try to find the last gen 2015 model on clearance. Much better bang for your buck.

You may have to use some CAD program that wont work on a mac, but I just used bootcamp on my mac to use as a workaround

In that case, you can boot windows on a Mac, but you're going to be paying a high price to run a windows machine. I'd probably recommend a surface pro or an Asus laptop like this:

1. Get a standard MacBook. No need to get a pro version unless you are doing some serious photo or video editing.
2. Get a 2014-2015 refurbished MacBook Pro directly from Apple. Carry a 1 year warranty and less expensive.

Coming from someone that has had a new MBP with touchbar for the past 3 months......it's dumb AF. There is literally no point in having the touch bar. It's some stupid shite that Apple added thinking that they were going to be clever. I'm a heavy MBP user (creative pro) and the touch bar doesn't accomplish a single thing that the old buttons and keyboard shortcuts can accomplish.

I don't have one of the newest generation MacBook Pros, but I've heard that the touch bar is a drain on the battery, not sure if Apple has solved that issue yet.

My MacBook Pro is the 2012 generation. Still running strong. Lasted me 4 years of college and is about to head to law school with me. They're expensive but their durability pays you back.

Can we please stop this trend for students to get these overpriced computers for miniscule software requirements?
