Thanks for the input everyone. IS there something in particular I should look for to determine I got a good PC and it runs fast? I do not trust the people at Best Buy they screwed me a few times.

SSD.

Do you live in Baton Rouge? You're looking for a desktop? Tell me your budget and I'll build you one.

No man. Unfortunately I am in Alabama at the moment. Thanks for the offer though.

Tell me exactly what you're looking for (desktop/laptop, usage, monitor?, etc) and what you're looking to spend, and I'll try to find an out-of-the-box solution.

Get the Mac... If you have a couple of applications that are not compatible and absolutely critical, snag a copy for VMware Fusion and run it in Windows on top of OS X.

Jesus. You people think just by turning it on you will get viruses.

Don't be a dumbass with your PC and you won't get viruses.

I'll agree with you on this one... Don't be a dumbass, and you're going to be OK.

Go with a Lenovo all-in-one desktop. Reliable, affordable, simple. Plus it cuts down on your wires a little bit. As far as I can tell Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows native antivirus) does a good job with protection.

A good gaming desktop is a big investment.

Get the Mac, you'll love it. If not you have 30 days to return it.

and when you want to upgrade your HD to SSD, you'll need to buy a whole new machine...Same with any other components in an AIO...Bad idea

True. I've been running a Windows 7 machine for over three years without any viruses. And I wasn't even wearing a condom.

Nah, just an idiot.

The OP doesn't seem like he's interested in anything fancy or complicated. Obviously anything you get should have a solid state HD, so no need to upgrade that in a few years. If you really want something to game on, this is clearly not the answer. Though I don't see the problem with getting the Lenovo for a family computer.

I was a PC user from the 80's to 2010. I switched to macs in 2010 and bought my son a PC this past Christmas. Returned the PC two weeks later and bought him a Mac. There is no comparison between the two.
