My laptop screen went out last night. I need help finding a new one. I need one for work and school. My budget is around $500. I need to make a quick decision. All I've bought in the past were toshiba's. I think I need to move on from them. I need one that has good quality. I've seen that Dell is better than it used to be. Any advice would be nice.

They have Microsoft surface pros at best buy for 499 right now. Late year's model. Don't think I would go and other route now that I have one. They have i5 processor, 8gb ram, and 128 on the hard drive

My surface simply did not hold up after a year or so.

It traveled with me on a regular basis and I put it through a rigourus work schedule but it should have held up better.

Dell wasn't top of the line 3-4 years ago, they absolutely sucked at mid range laptops.

Toshiba was better mid range at the time, now they suck.

It really seems that the brands go in various directions over time. Dell has final placed more efforts into development and sustainability.

I cannot in good faith recommend a Toshiba. However that being said in 2018 the quality control mechanisms of all these companies are incredibly similar. My best advice would be to find a product that addresses your direct needs and not to worry about the name on the front because it simply does not matter. With your 500$ budget I can see that you are not looking to do anything super demanding on your hardware. Look for sales to maximize what you can get with your budget.

On Ebay there's a guy selling refurbished Dell's that topnotch. He goes by Ky_man it think. I've bought 2 from him over the last few years. he warrants them and does give good service.

Interesting, I have found they can not be killed and mine has been abused pretty badly.

Just bought a Go as it is a bit smaller and should work just as well for my needs.

Guess I am just lucky
