Laptop Running Slow as Molasses

I have an ASUS laptop. 4GB RAM, 2.16 GHz Intel processor. Running on Windows 10 Home. Have Office loaded on it too.
It takes forever for me to load anything. The Start menu takes like 5 seconds to pop up when I click it, for example.
Pretty sure it’s the puny RAM that is giving me the problems. I tried to replace it myself but it is buried pretty deep (under the motherboard) so I might as well buy a new machine than screw it up pulling ribbons and screws.
But I guess I wanted to see if anyone might have another suggestion I can try out.
Thanks in advance.

What's task manager say? What % usage of cpu, disk, and memory when you are doing this? This should point you in the right direction.
I've also seen laptops run real slow when they get a ton of dust in them. If you can take the bottom off, look and make sure it isn't dusty.

Look for a video on YouTube for your particular model on upgrading the RAM. I've seen some laptops where you pop the keyboard off and it's right there. Then just snap the keyboard back into place.
4 GB is probably not enough for Windows 10. You're machine will use the hard drive as a swap file to make up for the lack of memory. You probably have a slow arse hard drive (5400 RPM) that's not helping either.
You could get an SSD hard drive and that would help too - but that's way more expensive than the RAM upgrade.

Quit pouring molasses into it. Your modern day laptops work much better on diet products, like Diet Pepsi.

Turn off "on-access" malware scanning. Leave the scheduled scans active though.
