Bought this device for a friend and installed it at friend's house in June 2022: LINK

Specs:
Voltage: 110 Volts
“Annual Energy Consumption”: 2 Kilowatt Hours

Friend's electrical consumption since installation (with 2021 comparison):

Rounded up all the usual suspects (spending more time at home, etc. etc.) and nothing out of the ordinary. Even with rise in avg temp from 2021 to 2022, can't find anything else to account for the surge in usage. Any ideas?

Question for the electrical engineers: even running at 100%, 24/7, could this little device be causing such a dramatic surge in usage?? The surge roughly corresponds to the installation date. However, the small 15% increase in AUG is inconsistent with the 2 prior months and raises more questions.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

If you're trying to account for 400 kWh in a month, that little fridge ain't doing it. That's an average of more than 500 watts 24/7, and if that little fridge was sucking that much it would have melted down through the floor.

The increase in consumption is almost certainly the AC working overtime. That type of usage is consistent with cooling ~15,000 cubic feet of space inside a house, not the 0.5 cubic feet inside that fridge.

I have one of these in each of my load centers.... There are add-ons to track individual outlets if needed.

Looks like that is a peltier unit which is very, very inefficient. Whether it could use that many Kwh, I don't know.

Google peltier for more info.

Why would the maker state: “Annual Energy Consumption”: 2 Kilowatt Hours ?? Peltier or non-Peltier, that seems like infinitesimal usage. Approx 1.5 cow farts.

Peltiers are not very efficient, but regardless that little cooler is not consuming hundreds of kwh per month. I was not exaggerating before, it would literally melt down or go up in flames. It would be putting out heat comparable to a space heater.

So while it's not drawing several hundred watts, it's also not drawing this little energy.

If you change the color the stated annual energy consumption changes drastically... 2kwh for red, 5kwh for white, 100kwh for mint, and 200kwh for pink. Obviously at least 3 of them are wrong, and I think all four are wrong. The best info I've found is it draws 48 watts on AC power, which works out to 420 kWh per year. On a monthly basis this thing should add 40 kWh max, not 400.

Same thing I found using the data sheet supplied from Frigidaire's site.

2 kWh per year is nothing. Who knows what it actually draws?

420 kWh in a year is a lot... that is close to $100 / month.

Where do you live that electricity is $3/kwh?

It would cost about $5/month in the majority of the US.

You're right, I think I forgot to divide by 12 somewhere.

Here's my math:

A typical household uses around 9,000 kWh per year and pays around $3,000 per year for it.

This equates to $0.333 (etc.) per kWh.

420 kWh per year is 420 * $-0.333 per year, or $140.

This is a little under $12 per month.
