Iphone is losing it's mind this morning

Not sure what is going on. I decided to update some apps. as i'm doing, the damn thing is going berzerk. If i'm 1/2" away from the screen it just start selecting anything i hover over. It's even selecting shite off to the right and left of my finger. I can't even close an app because it thinks my finger is triple clicking shite.
Hopefully this is just a problem during the update and it stops once all apps are finished.

my iPhone 6+ freaked out with the touch disease and I had to replace it with an 8+. Phone was never reliable and had a mind of it's own … would randomly call and text people on my contact list at all hours of the day

Maybe...but it sounds more like your digitizer is going haywire. How old is the phone?
Mine was going out on my 6 and would open apps randomly. I wouldn't even have my finger near the display and it would open apps.
