iPad vs iPad Mini 4

I am looking to upgrade my current iPad mini (original) to one of the newer ones on Black Friday. I am fine with the size of the mini, but also wouldn't be opposed to getting a larger one.
It seems like those two are going to be the best buys (I'm not looking to drop $700 on a tablet). The iPad has a non laminated screen (not even sure what that really means). Is my original ipad mini laminated?
I see that the ipad has a newer generation chip than the mini 4, but the mini 4 has 128 GB vs 32 GB in the ipad.
What do you guys recommend?

32gb is fine since everything is streaming these days and there is iCloud. I would recommend you get the screen size you want.

is the non-laminated screen bad?

I was in the same boat a month ago.
I went with the ipad because it was refreshed this year. The ipad mini hasn't been refreshed since 2015 effectively making it "old" in technology years.
I don't think the screen being laminated or not is anything to fret or make your decision over.
Like the other poster said, 32gb is plenty, especially if you stream everything.

For reference, does anyone know if my original iPad mini has a laminated screen?

a laminated display just means it has an anti-reflective display.
Very minor detail compared to the tech capabilities. I went from original ipad to original ipad mini and loved the size of the mini. But the 2017 ipad is much more capable than the ipad mini 4.

Earlier this year I upgraded from the iPad Mini 2 (i.e. Retina) to the 2017 iPad. I liked the form factor of the Mini, but have come to like the additional screen real estate. Also, for the tech at the $329 price point (wifi model w/ 32gb) is a really good deal. Very happy with the upgrade.

Thanks man. I think I can swing the larger size also.
Obviously, your Mini 2 has a superior display to my mini - is it a step down to the new one?

I’m not sure which regular iPad you’re looking at, but keep in mind the mini4 uses a cpu that’s many generations older than what’s currently available.
I have a mini 4 and I like the size, but it’s nowhere near as snappy as my iPhone 7. Not a big deal for very casual use, but it’s noticeable.
Re: laminated screen- i know the mini 4 has an updated screen over mini 2 (can’t remember if the lamination is the update or something else), but there is a noticeable difference in quality. Colors seem much more vivid on mini 4 compared to the 2.

I'm referring to the "ipad" as opposed to the pro. From what I've seen, the pros are almost as expensive as a macbook air

I think what they simply refer to as the “ipad” now used to be an iPad Air 3 or something.
Pretty sure whatever it is, is significantly more advanced than a mini 4.

iPad is beter buy that mini for the same price? it's confusing why the base model price is less for the ipad with a newer chip than the mini 4.
