Mesh if those are your options

Try moving your router first. It may be crippled by a fireplace (metal exhaust) or something like that.
Get a price on having Cat 5 dropped in a few places before you spend hundreds on mesh. Most mesh systems will eat up bandwidth for the back haul, and it can often be less frustrating to just drop cat 5 dropped in a weak spot and set up a $60 additional router.

$100 x55 mesh with wired backhaul is better than $1000 mesh with wireless backhaul. That’s all.

How big is your house and how many floors?
Posted on 8/1/25 at 7:45 am to mdomingue
2 floors - about 3000 sq feet - issue is they brought the fiber connection into the furthest point in the house away from living room and master and upstairs bed rooms 0 thiinking running cat5 is going to be best option

Ya there is no way a single access point is going to cover that house.
2x is good if strategically placed. With 3x, you can hide them out of the way pretty much wherever you want and still get good coverage.

Running wires is always the best place to start.

2 story houses can sometimes complicate running cables, and you might end up having to cut a hole where you didn't want to. So I also have another motto:
It's just sheetrock

Yeah. I ran drops (usually two per) in every room I thought I might need one. Every TV location has a network connection if needed..
