I’m assuming they make an iPad/iPhone to HDMI cable?

Just need one cable that can plug into an iPad or iPhone and then into the hdmi slot on a tv.
Is it that simple or do I need an adapter to connect multiple cables?

Look up Lightning to HDMI adapter on Amazon and there's a bunch.

If you have an iPad with a USB-C port, you can use pretty much any USB-C hub with an HDMI port

yes I have a generic usb-c hub which includes HDMI and it works with my monitor without issues.
Speaking of that, I can confirm that the M2 (I have the 12.9) does extend the screen when using HDMI, and it's full screen, not the square.
