How to keep links from opening via Google Proxy?

Not sure if that's how to phrase it, but I'm having a really annoying issue with my Phone.
Whenever I open a link say to a news story, it opens via google, not the direct site.
Example:
https:// www.google. com/amp/s/amp. washingtontimes .com/news/2020/may/29/george-floyd-died-police-restraint-combined-health/
Versus:
https:// www .washingtontimes .com/news/2020/may/ 29/george-floyd-died-police-restraint-combined-health/
I see the same article, but features like copy/paste, scrolling, and view aren't working properly. Often non-functional or delayed.
How do I change settings or whatever to keep "google amp/s/amp" from being the default opening shell.

What are you opening it through?

Not sure how to answer. If someone posts a link on TD, twitter, whatever......If I search for something in my browser and click a link ...it opens in the browser...but the url is like a proxy server and opens the link through google/amp.
I do have a Google Phone (Gift/HATE it), and I do use chrome because of passwords.

yeah its pretty annoying to pull the actual URL out instead of the google one. most people dont even realize this is going on until you try to copy the URL for someone and you realize its 'ampproject' instead of 'wired.com'
i wish i knew how to turn it off but its more google tracking shite.

I think you set google as the default program for websites, so the google app is opening them. If I open a link from the google app, it opens with the weird amp url, but then clicing on the 3 dots in the right corner, there is an option to "Open in chrome" which then opens chrome to the actual site's URL
Can you confirm that the links are opening in Chrome vs Google?
I have a google phone and have never had this issue.

i just tried it on my 3XL and it seems to have gone away.
there for a couple of years every url (even if 'open in chrome') would have the stupid ampproject in the URL and i would literally have to search for the same topic and hit the page directly in google to get the actual URL for the site in question.
super fricking annoying.
now i see it when i hite anything on 'google now' for a split second but then if i go to share the URL or open in chrome its back to the host website.
