I posted the other day about xferring Windows10 to a new mobo.

I'm replacing some very old (5 or 6 years) stuff.

Just wanted to post the new equipment upgrades I'm planning on getting to make sure this makes my gaming PC is usable for a few years to come. Kept it pretty middle of the road on price.

I'd upgrade that 1070 as well. It looks well behind the times at this point.

I'm confused. What is your old CPU?

For a previous gen card the 1070 still performs pretty well. I am running a 1070 and I have a 3440x1440p 35" ultrawide. It doesn't like some AAA titles with cranked up graphics but it runs most things just fine if you're willing to deal with moderate graphics. I run Apex Legends at a pretty steady 60fps, The Outer Worlds was mostly okay but would drop to 40ish at times. Both of those with high settings.

Which brings me to my question to OP:

1080P gaming? That 1070 is dandy and will be for some time. 1440p? It'll be okay for a while but you'll definitely want to upgrade when next gen cards drop.

was about to ask this before you edited to add it in.

I had a 1070 Ti with both a 1080p monitor and I upgraded to a 1440p monitor. I felt like I could play almost anything with pretty jacked up settings on the 1080p monitor. When I got the 1440p monitor I was a little more limited but could play everything very nicely.

So I think I would hold off on replacing that card. At least wait until next gen IMO. I'm using a 2080 Ti now but I don't think it was worth the upgrade except that my girlfriend needed a video card so I gave her my 1070 Ti.

It was a 5 year old I7 core, 2600 I think.

If by 5, you mean 8

The 2600k was a beast of a CPU

I do 1080P.

I have already been using the upgraded computer, and goodness, it is so much faster. Loving it.

I don't play all of these new games. I mess around with WoW, Subnautica, etc.

I'll look into upgrading to the 2080 maybe next year.

Aren't they around $500?

Yeah, it was a good one. Still working fine.

I ended up replacing my nice case with a new Corsair case, so I have that old CPU, mobo, and RAM still intact in the old case.

Could just throw in a cheap GPU and PSU and give it to my son.

2080 is overkill for 1080p and you don’t have a 240hz monitor. Especially since you don’t play demanding games.
