How do I post a picture when starting a topic

You have to host the image on a site such as imgur or Flickr. You upload the image to the site and then there will be link URL options sometimes called a BBC code. Find the direct link URL that contains a jpg extension somewhere in the URL....copy the URL and then click the tigerdroppings img button you see to the right of the text box. Paste the image in there, close the box and hit preview to see if it worked. I use this site to host images. LINK

In addition to what Zappas stache wrote, if want to start a thread with a picture that is already online, just long click the picture in iOS which should give you three options:
share,
add to photos,
or copy.
Select copy
Then paste into the image markup option.
e.g. using your image
https://i.imgur.com/ngw89dq.jpg

If you're on mobile, select 'view as desktop site' and then you can quickly & easily upload from your phone or PC (look for files on computer option)
Then wait 5-10 secs until its FULLY rendered there is a "..." that shows up. Select the second option "messageboard options" i think, then the 3rd option copies the full image link (including the IMG and /IMG tags) then just paste into your post.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I just visited CAD's link and I absolutely had to switch to desktop mode on my phone for it to work. Otherwise I get "oops! we couldn't find that page".

once again, my way is the quickest way for the OP to get a pic off his phone to TD.
you want to add about 8 more steps to the process so you can be 'right' and simply not click the 'desktop mode' option, by all means be RIGHT.
