Looking for complete system for parents house. Approx. 8 cameras. I have a Lorex system at my house (1080p/POE), but am hesitant to go that route again because their support is TERRIBLE and I find the DVRs could use quieter fans. But, they have nice cameras (up to 4k now) and can be had fairly cheap.
So, in short, anyone have experience with other systems?

So I assume you are looking to self install?
I am not handy enough and am getting 6 2MP Lux Outdoor Dome infrared cameras and a 2TB DVR installed with no monitoring fee for $1900. New Orleans area.

Yeah with the power over ethernet, its just a matter of running the wires. I did my house with little issue.
How much are they charging to install? That seems really high.

Who is doing it for you?
Doesn't seem too high if they warranty the product and instal.

since you are comfortable with running wires yourself i would rec the unify poe cameras from ubiquiti.

I have an Amcrest NVR that has 8 POE ports and use HikVision cameras outside and Foscam PTZ cameras inside. Been happy with it.

I was eyeing the hikvision. Seemed to be well liked by more advanced camera guys/gals.
