How does one know if the switches/Outlets are compatible with ones electrical system. Can these things be installed by myself or is it easier with an electrician? House i just bought is about 50 years old. Some new electrical some existing.

The main issue people run into is not having a neutral wire at the switch. 3 way circuits are another hiccup for some. If you've changed outlets or switches before, it shouldn't be a problem.

House I just bought has all new outlets and switches so I guess that's a good thing.

Nothing like protecting your home with a refurbished electronic lock.

that's pretty funny because..what...the metal on the lock is melted?

Good one, engineer. Good one.

But a multimeter and be prepared to do a little head scratching when you remove the switch faceplates.

Once you figure it out you can swap those switches pretty quickly.

I can't fathom having an electrician come out and charge me $150 a switch.

Eta my new house was added onto 3x and has every weird electrical configuration in the world so maybe it's just me that found a new surprise behind each switch cover.

I would tell my wife "oh this won't take 5 minutes...2 hours later I'm still cussing and capping wires together.

The BEST advice is make triple sure your caps are on tight especially if you're adding a wire to a common that already has 3 or 4 capped together. Yank on that fricker.

Can't tell you how many times I put everything back together and shoved it back in the box only to have a wire come loose and my wife standing behind me asking if the light is supposed to come on when I flip the switch.

If cad can eventually figure this out anyone can.

New Iris hub from lowes seems fine. Cameras are still crap but otherwise good.

You could buy a few outdoor Nest cams with the money saved.
