If you can still find a new Samsung KS8000 I would highly recommend it. Have the 55" version myself. Only problem is it's last years model and they're not producing any more new ones

I'm strongly considering pulling the trigger on this Sony this weekend when I get a chance to go see it in person at the store.

That's refurbished. I've never purchased anything refurbished. With something that expensive and center to a home's entertainment viewing, it's hard not to be skeptical.

Anyone have experience with refurbished TVs?

I bought qty 2 of these 65 inch Samsung KS8000's from Groupon. One was like new...one had minor scuffs on the rear. Both are fully functional and the image quality is outstanding.

There is a thread on this TV here..

My take.... worth a shot for a great TV at a great price....your mileage may vary....

The sellers of TV's do not usually make all components. They farm these out. Then they assemble them and call them their own.

Sometimes they get a group of bad boards and get a lot of returns of a particular model. They replace the bad board with an upgrade and test the tv. Everything is like new except you don't get the original warranty.

I have bought several items refurbished over the years (TV's / desktops etc) and never had a problem.

The manufacturer loses money and you save money.

Don't do it. I actually bought that TV and I currently have this one and the LG was right on par with it with no noticeable differences to the human eye.

There's a 7-8 page thread on here on that exact refurbished deal from groupon that a number of posters pulled the trigger on. There was quite a few on here who had defects and had to return it. So I'd be careful

ETA: and just realized someone already linked that thread

If you're willing to drive the 45 minutes, Best Buy in Tupelo has a few that might be of interest to you. They're showing 55" LG and Samsung 4K tvs in-stock right now for right at $800. They also have a 4K LG 60" with a 240 motion rate for $1100 if you're willing to spend a little extra.

I just bought an lg from best buy for ~450. I love the OS, but the picture is just not doing it for me. Today was the last day to take it back so I guess I'll keep it a while and then move to the bedroom.

I did a lot of research AFTER buying this one, and I would get this if I had to do it over again with your budget...

sony 850

If You want to stay a bit cheaper than that, the sony xbr700 for $699 seems like a really good deal. I was also impressed with the picture on this one... lg

Keep in mind I am not a tv guru, just a fella who learned the hard way lol
