seems like the amazon deal is now OOS

walmart has it for the same price for in-store pickup, but i had a terrible experience with in-store pickup earlier this week, so I am not too excited to give them more of my money

Damn. I thought I was robbing them when I got mine for $80 or so a few weeks ago. This current price is something like $70 off normal. If you ever thought you might want a Harmony, DO IT NOW. The hub alone is normally $70-80. This $58 price gets you the hub and their companion remote, which doesn't have any of the bells and whistles, but it's ideal if you want to set up an Echo or Google Home to run your entertainment system and need a good backup remote.

Nah, $60 to $70 is a fairly common price for this a couple times a year

I have two Harmony hubs. One in the living room and one in my bedroom. Love them both. I only use the hubs with my phone as a remote. Also have the living room hooked up with Alexa. It is awesome to be able to be like "alexa turn on fire tv", "alexa turn on NBC", etc.... also with volume controls and pause/play. Totally worth it and I probably paid about 75-100 per hub and then $50 for the echo dot. What it lets you do is just incredible in terms of bang for the buck.

i have my living room one connected to alexa, but some of the commands seem cumbersome

is there another way to turn up volume other than,

"alexa, tell harmony to turn up the volume"

I don't believe so. And you're right it is a bit cumbersome. I've had it long enough now that I don't have to think about it as much and I've gotten used to it. When Alexa gets sophisticated enough that you'll be able to attach custom commands to the skills, that'll be a game changer.

I was just reading that you can tell it to turn up a certain number of units, up to 20 I think

I can say "alexa, turn downn the volume of the tv". I do not have to ask Harmony. You may need to get a different skill if you haven't done it within the last year.

Maybe you should check to see if the latest Harmony skill you have enabled is the most up-to-date; the newest Harmony skill should eliminate the "tell harmony" part. For a period of time (I don't know the length) after you have Alexa turn on any Harmony activity, "Alexa turn up the volume" should default to Alexa automatically knowing it needs to feed the command to Harmony. After that time period ends, Alexa will default to changing its own volume. In any case, the newest skill should always allow you to say something like "Alexa, turn up the volume on the TV" or "Alexa, turn up the volume on the Playstation". With the new skill the device name is saved in Alexa as a Harmony connected smart home scene, so when you feed Alexa any command and say the name of the device you want, it knows to feed the command to Harmony for further execution.

This should also work for other commands under the new Harmony skill, for instance, "Alexa, pause the TV".

Yep. You can also enable Alexa's secondary Harmony skill and that will let you adjust the number of units it adjusts by when you simply say "Alexa, turn the volume up". The default is 7 units, but that may be too fine or too coarse depending on your equipment. Logitech should really clean that up and put it all in one skill, though.

I updated it and think I got it working right now

I also bought a 2nd hub

Looking online, it may be hard to control 2 hubs with 2 different echos in different rooms. They were supposedly working on a fix but not sure if you have to use some workarounds as of right now.

I got two hubs last week and set them both up. To be able to control both with Alexa, I had to enable both of the Harmony skills. For my second hub, it seems that I have to say, “Alexa, tell Harmony to...,” whereas with my first hub, it’s just, “Alexa, turn on the TV.”

So I found that I could set up an app called yonomi and control my second hub with shorter commands. Instead of having to say, “Alexa, tell harmony to turn on the Roku,” I can now just say “Alexa, turn in the Roku.”

Just make sure that you have a different command for your first hub. For my first hub, it’s just, “Alexa, turn on the tv”
