Google to open Project Fi to iPhone, Samsung and OnePlus

Google’s Project Fi mobile service will reportedly be boosted by a major expansion of compatible smartphones this week. Fi will add support for Samsung, OnePlus, and iPhones, according to Droid Life, which reported on a since-removed article at BGR. More handsets from existing Fi partners LG and Motorola will also gain Fi support. The iPhone experience is apparently “in beta,” which is a sign that users might run into bugs or be left without some of Fi’s features.
Project Fi is the Google-backed MVNO that combines network coverage from T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. The service is appealing for its straightforward pricing: unlimited calls and texts are $20 per month, and mobile data is $10 per gigabyte until you reach 6GB. (After that, it’s free, but customers experience slower speeds if they cross 15GB.)

Wish the data prices would have gone down some.

Is your phone bill less than $80/month?

have yall not read on what project fi does? a while ago they capped your data charge at 60 bucks. So it is an unlimited plan for 80 bucks. but if you only use 2GB that month your bill is 40.
Once they did that it is the best plan out there. pro rated plan up to 6 GB and unlimited data after.

Yes, and i have been on Fi before. Data is still expensive if you use it. On Cricket i pay $87 a month for 2 lines with each having 8GB to use. 2 lines on Fi and each person using like 3GB is more than that already.

I use roughly 40gb of data every month. Will I still only pay $80 for the bill? How bad do they throttle?

quote:2 lines on fi using 8 GBs is 115. so yea it is more expensive than cricket...but lest say you use 10 GBs. your bill is 135...... then say you use 15 GB. your bill is 135.... then you use 20 GB your bill is 135.

but back to blue's question... idk about the throttling.

What if an individual on my plan needs significant amounts of high speed data?
If you use more than 15 GB of data in a cycle (less than 1% of individual Fi users as of Jan. 2018), you'll experience slower speeds above 15 GB with Bill Protection.
If you need significant amounts of high speed data, you can opt to pay $10/GB for the data you use past 15 GB in a given cycle.

Well, he may be talking about a family of 4 or 5 burning through 40gb - which would be a little high, but everyone's situation is different.
But, if a single device is going through 40gb a month - that's 1.3gb per day - I doubt that device is on wifi very much - under those circumstances.

Never. I'm on AT&T unlimited and use the hell out of it. Never get throttled too, surprisingly.
If I ever do have any issues, I would likely consider switching.

Is it? I posted this because I know a lot of you like Fi, but it has always seemed to be a "reasonable" price rather than a good price. I think I'd switch to Cricket before I switched to Fi if I switched.

Fi really shines in the international market. I used my phone all over Italy with no added fees.

How so? Getting an easy 50mb down all day every day without having to bust into my home bandwidth

Agreed.
I'll stick with my at&t prepaid. 2 lines, up to 22gb before throttling for under $100 before taxes and fees.
