The Sonos and Ikea partnership announced in December is now bearing fruit in the shape of speakers. The non-functional prototypes on display at Ikea’s Democratic Design Days event in Sweden are illustrative examples of what you can expect from Ikea’s new SYMFONISK range. In other words, the final products may or may not look like the prototypes. Nevertheless, Sonos says that the final products will fully integrate with Sonos’ existing range of Wi-Fi speakers and Ikea’s “Home Smart” range of Trådfris smart devices, including lights, dimmers, and switches.

quote:

In keeping with the theme of democratization, you can expect the new Symfonisk range to lower the cost of entry into the Sonos ecosystem which currently starts at $150. “Many people dream of built-in sound systems, but few can afford it,” says Björn Block, Business Leader for IKEA Home Smart. “Our goal is for our collective work to save space, get rid of cords, make clutter invisible, and bring sound and music into the home in a more beautiful way.” Unfortunately, Neither Sonos nor Ikea is confirming any pricing today.

What a great way to add cheap speakers for those 'out of the way' areas in your house you don't want to spend $150 on!

3 downvotes for a thread discussing a way to add much cheaper speakers to extend your sonos network around your house.

this board is too much.

You gonna mention me in every SONOS thread you start ? Funny thing is I sell more SONOS devices in a month than you have non interoperable smart doodads in your house. It’s a good product but it also has its limitations. Just because I voice some of those downfalls here doesn’t mean I’m a hater brah. I’m just giving real world feedback.

because i know how much you hate people who save money or buy inexpensive products so i figured you be along shortly to trash ikea-versions of sonos speakers.

Wonder if the build quality will be just as good as their furniture ? Some assembly required ?

I spend lots of time in the garage tinkering with my e30 and building crap so yes, would love to have permanent speakers instead of Bluetooth crap.

Ikea smart lights are legit and very inexpensive so hoping these speakers will be decent.

good news for my wife

eta yeah its cad-lenses but sonos fits my lifestyle perfectly. music is always alive in our house now..no zone-2 speaker getup has ever accomplished that.

my wife for the first time since we married actually uses our music system. she was never interested in picking up an AVR remote with 400 buttons on it.

to me this means sonos has been a resounding success. its a helluva lot better than either an AVR-based solution or bluetooth blockheads.

Then install some permanent speakers instead of these ikea doodads.

so you are recommending wiring some traditional speakers that have zero integration with my whole-home system already in place vs a speaker developed in partnership with sonos that you have absolutely no clue about because...ikea?

is this the kind of advice you dispense to your clients?

Why can’t traditional speakers integrate ?

to what?? what would you have me connect them to? even if i had an AVR (which i dont) i'd still have to find a place to connect them and run wires down to my garage. why would i want speakers i cant use alexa to control and can't integrate into my smart home and tell me someone upstairs just unlocked my front door?

sonos is not only a whole-house speaker system but it also provides audio notifications when smart devices are triggered..you know..like only $30,000 C4 installs can do.

what possible use case exists where these would be cheaper or a more logical solution than 2 more stereo-paired sonos-designed nodes?

you're really trying too hard to be a contrarian whenever i bring up sonos as a solution.

Sonos Amp ?

But you are right I have no idea the specs on these speakers or the quality. But I can only assume what a cheaper built Sonos speaker made for ikea will sound like in a space like a garage.

What is it a garage or a She Shed ? Because those speakers will rock a She Shed.
