Is there any other option for high speed internet in the baton rouge and surrounding areas?
I am pyaing for 150mb download and my average is between 2-5mb.
I have been on the phone with cox about 5 times in the last two months, and according to them, everythhing looks great.
They finally agreed to send someone out --- on WEDNESDAY.
Wednesday got rescheduled, Thursday the guy showed up, with some equipment that I don't need and no clue about my real problem, and Friday, no one even showed up or called ---- for my 3pm to 5pm appointment.
I have had cox internet for over 20 years. I should be treated like a valued customer.
Instead, I get a no call no show on my 3rd straight day of waiting.
What options do I have for internet?

All I know is that you don't need that much speed anyway. Your other option is AT&T.

We need more details.
What kind of testing have you done?
Are you strictly wireless? Are you hardwired? Have you tried both and compared them?
What modem and router do you have?
Have you ever gotten near the right speed?

Thanks for the reply
Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router
Arris SB 6141 modem
I have set up a MoCa network. We tried cutting the cable and so I set up a MoCa network, got a Tivo Bolt and some Tivo Minis.
My speeds are what is frustrating. There is some real inconsistency a foot. Most of the time it is 5 or less. But for a day or two at a time it will run over 100.
On Thursday I had cox reboot my modem and clear my cache. It worked great all night Thursday. Testing between 100 - 120
Since Friday morning, I haven't seen a test of over 10.
I have 2 desktops hard wired. The 3 tivo minis and 1 tivo bolt are connected through the MoCA, powered by a Tivo Moca adapter. I have 2 wireless laptops and 1 all in one wireless running. Also the phones connect through wifi as well.
I have tested everything individually and as a whole. I have disconnected the MoCA and gone straight from the house, to the modem, and then hardwired directly to my desktop - without the router.
Nothing is consistent. With everything hooked up, I have seen 120 speeds. With nothing but 1 desktop hooked up, I have seen only 2mb speed.
Sometimes I am at 100, most of the times I am 5 or less. Cox has no clue. They say all of my signals look great.
One thing I have noticed, is when I power cycle everything - properly- my internet will work good for about 20 minutes, then slow back down.

Same issue here. I've called Cox and asked why I pay for 100 MBps when I get 35 at best, and 1.0 at the worst times. I've cut cable and use the internet for everything, so I have high speed for a reason. My router/modem combo I bought from Cox (terrible idea, now I'm stuck with them) is only a year old, so it's not the issue. And they can't figure out the problem so they'll transfer me around for an hour and accomplish nothing. Im downgrading my plan next month and I'm switching to Uverse as soon as it's available for me

You aren't stuck. You can buy a separate modem and router.

I had an issue like that at my previous address. They turned off some channel hopping function in my modem and it resolved the issue.
It took me going through all the song and dance. Techs coming out testing signal etc... Until they finally elevated the ticket and then it got solved.

I meant I'm stuck with them if I don't want to have to buy a new router and modem

Wireless or wired speeds? You won't get near the limit on wireless.

Ballon Huffer -
What you have described is exactly what I experience. Cox has come out numerous times...looked at the box, replaced outside and inside wiring...nothing really gets better. The techs have admitted that even wireless, I should be getting at least 70 mb download.
I am as frustrated as you are. I plan on calling them out one more time and if no improvement, goodbye Cox.

I had the same problem a few months ago with them no calling no show a few times in a week.
a complaint to the BBB got them over to my house REAL fast....just saying.
apparently cox hates that.

There is simply no way they can possibly say that

Your only choice is Cox/AT&T, or Eatel if you live in Ascension Parish.

Because there are so many variables. You should be able too tho if it's setup properly and you get a good signal.
I was having speed issues with Cox. Node was overloaded. They fixed it and now my speeds are much better. I didn't really have a miserable experance with them...it just took a cpl months longer than they said. I have the 200/20 package and I usualy see 225 hardwired and Best on my 6 wifi has been 130s. Can get 200 on wifi with my MacBook.

Thanks,
as an update, a tech came out and replaced all connections, splitters etc.
I am now averaging about 40 -50 (while paying for 150).
Still, so far, a big improvement versus the 2-5 I was typically getting.
I can live with 40 all day every day, plenty more than I need. Now lets just hope it is consistent.

That's strange.

They probably need to replace the underground lines at your house..
Have they done that?
Get a better tech out..

Sorry for triple post, but yes, when I had this issue. The lines that go outside underground to the box/post had to be completely changed.. they did all this for free. They had to have a certain group bury the lines after.. (free as well) and also may have had damage at the box.. but it doesn't always show in the signals when they test over the phone. It took a special tech to know how to fix it.. because even he said he hadn't seen anything like it before and he was a big time vet.. there was some issue out there.
I would try to get another tech support person on the phone and continue to demand it fixed.
Att internet is slow.. and while you may not need 100+ mb down.. you definitely need more than 1-5 mb down in today's time.. especially if you are primarily using internet or have others..
Good luck to you..

One last tip.
Once they finally fix it..
Call back and ask for a refund for the time you called in and told them the service wasn't acting correct.. and they will actually credit you back a ton of money..
They did for me.. They even did this when I wasn't getting just one channel..
