Dumping Cox for ATT - Wifi Network Question
Posted on 4/6/22 at 11:22 am

My three year deal with Cox just ran out and they are going up dramatically on their rates so looking to switch to ATT.
I have several devices connected to the wireless network (alarm system, Ring, wireless printers, sprinkler system, etc.).
If I tell the ATT Tech to use my current Network Name and Password, will I have to redo all the connections?
Thanks in advance for the replies!

If you use the same wifi name and password, your devices *should* just connect.

They probably won't do it for you but I believe you can make those changes yourself fairly easily with the At&t smart home manager app.

That or logging into the Gateway.

They MIGHT just connect.
I have a buddy that's doing the same today in Lakes at White Oak and the AT&T "tech" couldn't get his router to pass info, yet its fine with Cox's modem connected to it.
I'll have to go over there tomorrow and make it work, but nothing AT&T does is ever easy.
Buyer beware

Sounds like the tech forgot to reboot the router when switching between at&t and cox services. it was probably holding the Cox IP/DNS info and not re-registering when plugged in to the at&t gateway. Not to mention you have disable and enabled some settings in the at&t gateway to get it to work with a 3rd party router.

Most of my stuff connected automatically

When we switched from ATT copper to fiber, the tech changed the new name and password to match the old. Was seamless for us.

You can keep your router login info the same.
