Dog attack caught on video. Thank goodness for security Cams. (Wired vs wireless)

There's an ongoing thread about this one on the Outdoor board, but long story short, over the weekend my wife was walking our dog who was attacked by our neighbors dog. I feel I've got personal and dog related aspects of the incident covered (very well) over there, so this thread really isn't about that. This one I'd just like to offer up as a specific example of the benefits of having a dedicated system like this that has your back (so to speak) 24/7/365.
Here are the "highlights of the incident (this is a cut and paste from the ODB)
...On the way home, literally at our driveway, our neighbors wait for it, pit bull mix (but ya'll already guessed that, right?), came charging across the street and she wasn't as lucky this time. Let's just say it was a mess. His owner had to tackle the dog to get it off of ours. Both the dog and my wife are physically fine (as best we can tell). My wife is very, very shaken up mentally (I don't know about the mental state of the dog, but he messed himself during the attack and ended up having to have a bath.) They've had their dog less than 1 year.
The entire encounter was captured by multiple views on our security cameras. I wasn't that alarmed until I watched the video. Our neighbor came over immediately after he got his dog up. (end cut and paste)
I wasn't overly concerned until I ran the video back. The full impact of the event didn't register until I witnessed it. The quickness and ferocity of the attack weren't fully communicated to me until I saw the video. At that moment, I was worth every penny and all the time in the hot attic this summer and the numerous trips up and down the ladder.
I would like to add this. Our ring doorbell faces the same direction general. Our front door is to the right of the frame and has a full view of the street and cul-de-sac. This incident did not register as a motion event with the ring doorbell. With only cloud storage, were were not able to pull any footage from it. I had different parts of the event on 3 of my security cams, I only posted the most relevant video. (FWIW, I did not have sound recording turned on for the driveway cam. The sound came from another camera located about 10-12 feet away. I tried to sync the audio as best I could, but it's about 0.5-1 second off.) It was 5mp footage that I down rezed for upload to the web.
Be safe out there everyone.

Everybody thinks they know their dog and "he would never..." We don't even know when/if the human next to us will snap, much less a dog.
I'm sorry that you, your wife, and your dog went through (and are going through) this, and I'm glad that everyone is safe and that you have video of it.
And yes, wired cams recording always is the only way to go.

As it shouldn't, that seems pretty far away from a door for a doorbell camera. The doorbell camera is for doorbell and near door events, despite people thinking it is a general-purpose security camera.

Yet it captures our vehicles in the same spot every time we pull into/out of the driveway. I hear what you're say and agree. That's why we added to that layer of security...
Here's the a view from our ring. As you can see, the location where the incident happened is just about dead center in the frame.

On the plus side, I was happy to see that the way I have our cams positioned, I have really good coverage of the front of our house. The incident was captured from the moment our neighbor walked out his front door (about 1 min before the attack) until my wife and dog went into the garage and shut the garage door.

I didn't speak to him yesterday, but he was very emotional and remorseful after it happened. After he got the dog inside he immediately came over to check on us. I think it shook him up (mentally) as much as it did my wife.
Here's a snippet of what I posted on the ODB. I went by animal control this AM. When I was looking at the aggressive dog laws for the city, I realized that was equally negligent as a dog owner. You were supposed to register you dog with the City. We had not. So I went there, registered our dog and spoke with Animal Control, The animal control folks were great. I had a conversation about what happened over the weekend. I spoke in generalities and told them how I intended to handle it. I'm going to ask the neighbor to license his dog with them, and keep Charlie on a leash if he's in the front yard. I'm not asking for that much, and it's City code anyway. They seemed very comfortable with the approach. The did not pressure me for his info or more specifics. They said, "It's always best when neighbors handle it among themselves." I agree with that. I have no ill will against them as neighbors, or the dog for that matter. They made a mistake, and that can happen to anyone. Lord knows I've made the my own mistakes with animals as well. We are all lucky that nothing more serous happened. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for all of us.
