Just moved into a new house and internet doesn’t get hooked up until Tuesday.

Am I still able to watch live tv on different devices without internet?

Not trying to be a dick but how would Plex Live TV work without a router or internet?

I'm not sure how it works, but I'm assuming it feeds your cable/antenna into a PC that runs through plex then distributes to other devices?

If that's the case, you would at least need a router handing out IP addresses to access it, but shouldn't need internet unless you have to sign in to plex to make the plugins work.

If Plex live TV comes via the internet then I think you know the answer would be yes, you need internet, but then I doubt you would be asking if this was the case.

It needs a router, but it doesn't need internet service.

I'm assuming OP is talking about the OTA locals, in which case you use an HDHomerun. It picks up the channels via antenna, then "re-broadcasts" them over your local network. Plex detects it and picks it up from there.

Right.

The only issue might be the Plex sign-in process, which at least at one point was giving people issues when they didn't have internet access. I will disconnect my internet and test my setup now...

OK, so you will not be able to switch users (if you have multiple), so I guess you're stuck with using whichever user last logged in on the client device you're using. Maybe that's only if you have Plex Home enabled, I'm not sure and don't feel like going through all that stuff. What I do know is that Plex will go into offline mode without internet access, in which case the last user signed in will still be signed in. I was able to watch OTA channels without an internet connection, though of course the program thumbnails didn't load because they are downloaded from the internet.

Exactly what I am doing. I was able to rig it last night with my phone hotspot so the guide at least downloaded. I could watch OTA on the computer itself but when I tried on my AppleTV (same router network), it stated that Live TV wasn't available with remote access.

So I guess a better question is if Plex doesn't have an internet connection, is remote access auto enabled on the other devices even if they are on the same network?

Just trying to figure out a way to watch games this weekend inside and outside without having to set up 2 antenna.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Actually I think I do, since I explained right under that line you quoted two scenarios, one of them obviously being dead on and right. and even confirmed by the OP.

idiot

Update:

It does work without internet connect and just a router connection...but not on Apple TV.

For whatever reason I couldn’t get it to work their but had no problems using a Fire stick. Has anyone else had this problem?

It works great by the way, the guide and recording is excellent. Especially the feature of recording and cutting out commercials!

I may just need to upgrade my hardware because of slight buffering every so often watching live tv since it’s transcoding. I have the server on a laptop at the moment.

how do people in 2018 not understand the difference between the "internet" and your home network?
