Do any of the Windows automatic repair features ever work?

Success rate has to be abysmal, right?

Win10 laptop shite the bed. I've been away from Windows for so long that I have no idea what to do other than wipe and reinstall (will probably put Linux on it). Disk checks out fine.

Just install any flavor of Linux you like and quit torturing yourself.

That's the plan, and I would have done it long ago but it's not my laptop.

It's my wife's (no pics), but it's now mostly used by the kids for misc video meets and such. I know the kids will pick up KDE or whatever really quick. The wife hates change but Linux desktops are so easy these days I doubt she'll have much issue. The main issue was Office but since she switched to 365 I believe it should all work fine.

That was going to be my next plan of action, however the automatic repair seems to have really fricked it up. It won't even get far enough to roll anything back, damn thing jumps straight to bios as if the disk isn't there. Pop in a linux thumb drive and I can mount the disk and browse it just fine.

The automatic repair is garbage, I seriously believe it's just a BSOD with a different screen on top and not actually doing anything.

Wipe/reinstall fixes just about everything and is much less of a pain than trying to google for hours on end.

I've used one before that reset WiFi adapter and it worked. That's probably my only success story.

I've had system restore work many times.

The troubleshooting repair tools. Nope. I think 1 time out of a zillion the sound repair tool actually solved the problem. I think that is the one time a softy repair tool worked.

A long long time ago we'd use for disabling and reenabling NICs and such, but now the GPOs don't allow the end users to run them.
