Have any of you baws made one of these DIY tv antennas? I'm gonna give it a try since I have most of the materials already before I go buy one. I could listen to this old boy talk all day though, country as hell.

Not to derail this thread, but I've currently got an antenna for my living room TV, but was wondering how hard it would be to get an outdoor one and hook it up to the previous cable box so it can feed to the existing coax lines? My current antenna is hidden behind the TV and because of this the signal isn't that strong and there are other rooms I'd like to be hook up to it.

Guy at work made on out of a 2x4 and coat hangers. He claims he gets more channels than any antenna he has bought.

My brother has an antenna in his attic and that's what he did. He does have a booster in between the antenna and the splitter that needs power. You could probably try it without the booster but you'll probably need one, the signal will degrade over a long coax run.

Did the same thing a few years ago. I've got a pretty large indoor/outdoor antenna mounted on a stud in the attic. I split off of a plug in the room next to it and put an outlet in the attic as well. Plugged in a powered booster that feeds to a splitter. I get everything possible in Birmingham. The only issue is NBC sometimes goes out, but I think that is not on my end. Weather seems to affect that channel more than anything, as I was flipping around last night during the storm coverage and everything else was crystal clear but I would get some scrambled picture on NBC13.

Look up the Gray-Hoverman design. It’s easy to make and has pretty good range

I did this. With a dipole transformer hooked to it
$10 total to make and I catch a shite load. I put it in my mother’s attic and she’s catching everting crystal clear

I have built the same, and can confirm the same. Not more channels really, just better pickup of channels.

Gray-Hoverman
Made from spare parts I had laying around. $0 cost.
But if you live in Effie, all you’ll probably reliably get is Alexandria broadcasts, without a 60’ mast directional antenna.

Does this pull in VHF channels?

just buy this cheap RCA antenna
It may not be the same model, as I'd have to climb in my attic to check, but that looks exactly like the one I have.

it is all you need. all these antenna that market HD Antenna, is all marketing. An Antenna from the 80's can pick up the HD radio waves.

That's one I was looking at getting. Wasn't sure if I would put it in the attic or roof. Leaning attic now as the vast majority of the towers are only a few miles away and there is a window pretty facing them, with random ones only being 50 or so.

Do you have it amplified? Is it feeding more than one tv? I’ve got all the shite to make one of these and would rather just do that than spend $50.

The one I linked pics up VHF & UHF. I thought about the RCA model, actually looked at it, just trying a different route. Can't put it in the attic because I have radiant backing on the roof plywood. Was planning to tie-in to the Cox box on the side of the house with an outdoor antenna, use a powered amplified splitter to run the signal all over the house.

Any issues with losing reception during storms?
