Dirt Cheap GPU Request - Crosspost with Gaming - Whack if not allowed

I'm putting together my first build and am (along with the rest of the world) waiting on an RTX 3080. In the interim, I'm trying to get my hands on the cheapest GPU I can find that 1. Actually works and 2. Has at least Display Port 1.2 or better so I'm not fumbling with adapters to get it hooked up to a modern display. Not to actually game, or even do much of anything, but literally to just be able to finish the build, boot into UEFI and then Windows for setup, confirm all of my other components work before we get too far from their purchase date, etc.
I found a few on Facebook Marketplace for $40 or so, but they were actually decent, albeit very old, cards, which is more than I need, and more than I'd like to pay for something I'm literally only going to use to get the rig set up.
So, if someone has a potato they have sitting in a shoebox in the closet that they are willing to part with for a few bucks and a song, let me know. Username at the google mail. Though definitely also post here, because I'm not exactly diligent at checking that throwaway account

Why not buy a decent gpu that plays most games used then resell after procuring a 3080?
What are you doing with the machine? Playing minesweeper and solitaire?
Just buy the 40$ used card and use your machine.

I wouldn't be doing anything with it, beyond setting up the system. Already have two laptops (one personal, one for work) that can do anything day to day that I'm looking to do, including mid-range gaming on the personal one. I just don't have a discrete gpu to slot in to get the system to post.

I agree about buying the $40 card. You can probably sell it again for $40 once you no longer need it.

Which I may end up ultimately doing. But I doubt I'd sell it afterwards, regardless. I'll probably hold onto whatever I ultimately grab so I have a troubleshooting card for the future.
Was just putting out feelers to see if someone wanted $20 or so for some old, cheap-even-when-originally-released card that's collecting dust.

Then why not just wait until you have your 3080? What's the rush?

I bought components in advance of the launch, as I was concerned about the ongoing psu/motherboard shortages, etc. I have been able to test the psu and fans, but short of doing a full build, I don't have the capacity to test the motherboard. So I would rather not get much further than I already am (about 30 days) from purchase without being able to make sure the components work. And because my cpu doesn't have integrated graphics, I can't post without a gpu.

Ah yeah, good point on the return window. Although, I would imagine your major components come with some level of manufacturer warranty.

They do, which is why I’m not uber stressed over it. I would just rather tempt fate as little as possible
