Is it my imagination or has the customer service at DirecTV gone to hell since AT&T took it over. Tried to get 2 remotes replaced (we have the protection plan). One remote would not respond to the "1" "3" or "0" keys and the other remote had the infamous steady red light (dead)...not just batteries.

It took us 35 minutes to finally convince the "English as a 2nd language" tech support person that the steps listed in their script wasn't gonna work...and the remotes were truly dead. 35 minutes and 3 different operators. It was painful to say the least...and we've been DirecTV customers since the late 90s. My wife was very upset....and she's usually the calm one.

I have that plan also. It's easier to just buy it from amazon for $6.99 with prime for 2.

How long did it take you to get a tech on the phone? Last time I called it took about 10 min.

I cancelled it and went with Hulu live.

Yeah...that protection plan is good for one thing it appears: Dish realignment as needed after windy days.

I told the wife we could have bought the remotes online easier. Next time...I think we do that. And due to the piss poor quality of these remotes...I know there will be a next time...until we quit DTV.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience, but I'm sure you've heard that you can get a great deal by bundling telephone and internet with your TV service.

AT&T is the worst about providing bad service and trying to sell you more.

As soon as my current contract is up we will be cancelling Directv. AT&T has absolutely ruined them. Directv used to,be great.

After I moved 5 months ago, I called in to cancel Directv since Cox was offering such a great deal and I was also done with trying to deal with their customer service...they pulled me in with an offer I simply couldn't pass up, but as soon as all the credits are up I'm jumping ship

Remotes cost $5 on ebay. That is my replacement plan.

Well that's not true either. Father in law made that mistake..and his bills skyrocketed after an intro timeframe. Luckily our DirecTV is in my wife's name and our cell phones are in my name. We have Google Fiber for internet...and Ooma for phone...and we are extremely happy NOT to have bundles.

easier just to open it up and clean with rubbing alcohol.

Also easier, as said, to order on ebay. At times you can get them for 3 bucks w free shipping. Try cleaning though. It helps a lot. Also possibly put a tiny bit of oil on the board after cleaning in the places that are difficult.
