Digital Picture Frame help requested

Both my wife and I are retired. We have several old-style photo albums that store family photos taken over the course of our marriage of 50 years. I want to transfer around 200 of these photos to a Digital Picture Frame. I have watched several YouTube videos on this subject. They all say how easy it is to send pictures from your phone but none of them that I have seen describe how you go about transferring pictures from old style photo albums.
Is it as simple as just taking a picture of the old photograph while it is still in the photo album with your phone and just transferring from your phone to the Digital Picture Frame or is there a different process? It would be quite time consuming to take 200+ pictures out of 4 albums to take a picture of them and then replace them back into the photo album.
Finally, any recommendations based on your personal experience is appreciated. I have WIFI throughout our house and would prefer an item that does not require any type of subscription.
Thanks for your help.

You should really use a picture scanner if you want them to look good and not have glare from taking a picture of a picture. Can buy a picture scanner fairly cheap.
I think there are also services that will digitize your physical albums for you.

i have had a couple of these over the years; the first was a pixstar(?) i think and it was wifi and i could send new photos to it remotely so my mom and dad always had new photos of the grandkids. it was cheap and kindof a problem to keep it going.
my wife recently purchased an Aura for me from Costco. I highly recommend it. Here is my process (yours may vary)
- yes, get in a well-lit room free from overhead light glare and if you have a decent phone camera (anything in the last 3-4 years will be more than fine) just hold it still over your photos or better yet, get a little stand for the phone so its flat and free from shaking. the photos will look great and remember, with like a 16mp or higher resolution, you don't have to frame the photo perfectly. just make sure the whole photo is captured. You will be amazed how well this works. Don't waste money on a dumb app that claims its designed for photo scanning or buying a dedicated scanner.
- step 2; if you don't have a google/photos account you should set that up now. that will make everything else super easy.
- step 3, as you take photos with your phone, they will automatically show up on your computer in google photos in your browser. thats when you go in and hit the 'edit' button then crop them to fit. on VERY RARE occasions do I mess with the lighting; almost always the original photo looks better so focus on just cropping it to be the way you want.
- step 4, unbox your Aura, create an account and then say 'link to google photos'.
- step 5, create an album in google photos where you keep all the photos you want to appear on the digital frame. depending upon how creepy you want google to be, it can recognize faces and automatically add them to this album. I created an album called 'Aura' and it automatically picks up photos of my family based on facial recognition.
-step 6, tell aura to use that album for the photos that display on the frame. you can still opt to remove certain photos like in my case, any photos inadvertantly featuring my ex

purple, happy to help if you go down this path. i'm very happy w/ aura; i think they have the best digital frame out there right now and of course, costco will take ANYTHING back so if it doesn't work, your risk is minimal. a couple cool features of the aura:
- i have over 1,000 images displayed on it and its still going strong. not sure what the limit is
- if you see a portrait photo pop up and the frame is sitting in landscape mode, just turn the frame on its side as you're walking by and it will automatically refresh w/ the photo framed perfectly
- you can 'slide' your finger along the top to go forward or back to look at any photo
- you can tap the frame when you see a photo you like an a little heart will float up

Cad, first of all, thank you for your help.
Since I am retired, I do have plenty of time. I plan on removing the photos from the album one at a time and either scan them with my scanner or using the Google photo app you mentioned. If I scan them, I am not able to add a caption. Once scanned and I transfer it to the Aura, am I able to add a caption then?
Now let's assum I try it with my Apple I 11 phone. I use the Google Photo app. Once the picture is taken, do I add captions then in Google Photos or do I add captions after the picture is transferred to the Aura?

you can add captions (under 'info') either in google photos app on your phone or on your PC in the browser.
now, the problem is that i dont think aura will display that caption (i'm actually going to try it right now and will go down and look) so if the info/description/caption is important and i'm guessing with family history it *IS* important, you may want to consider a google nest frame since I think it will support the captions natively.
its actually something i haven't thought about before but now that you mention it i *N E E D* it.

let me do some digging
eta here's what the caption looks like in the browser.

ETA - i see the date shows up that you associated with the photo on the Aurua and who uploaded it when you tap on it but i don't think it pulls in the 'description/caption' from google photos.

IIRC, I think you're in the Jackson, MS area. If it gets a bit overwhelming, or you have a few older damaged photos you want to try to salvage Deville camera can digitize and digitally repair scanned photos (within reason) for a fee.
