OnePlus just ended its partnership with Hasselblad. The Chinese companies are real competition for Apple over in Asia.

Well not only that but a while back, the ChiComs pretty much told everyone working for the Government to stop using iPhones. And of course China itself is huge market for Apple.

I think they since backed off but the damage is done and they can swing back
anytime they want.

I'm talking about real competition in terms of technology, r&D, and having the money to compete. Even if China hadn't done that, Apple wouldn't dominate as it does here.

Well sure it will. But if they're catching on all over Asia, isn't that a problem for Samsung too?

Like anything else Chinese, the technology hardly lives up to their claims. A 7.5Ah battery (about 27Wh) charging at 100W? That's a fire hazard, not a valuable feature. I have 120Wh battery packs and they get pretty warm at 120W charging.

4C charging for LiPo is hardly a fire hazard but there is a trade with general lifetime or number of cycles and it’s really unbalanced with discharge only needing maybe 1C max. Most batteries prefer the imbalance in the other direction.

I tend to prefer Chinese companies over American for all electronics, especially cameras and IOT stuff. When you buy a Chinese product, you typically own it and can do as you wish with it. That’s slowly changing though. Tuya just cut off local device keys from their free-tire developer accounts so I won’t be buying their stuff anymore.

I just can't get onboard with these China-phones. Yes I know that apple and samsung are made there too but I have a bit more faith (albeit minimal) that it's not going DIRECTLY to the CCP.

Samsung closed their last phone factory in China in 2019. All their phones are made in either Vietnam or Korea, with the exception of domestic India models that are made in India.
