Wow do you actually believe that's how it works? The rate that people are downloading is what causes congestion, not the amount. Data caps on the amount does nothing to reduce congestion. The limit your speed to prevent people from "hogging" bandwidth.

ATL is that guy from 2001 arguing for texting packages on voice plans for your cell to be caped at 100 bc it cost sooo much money to support that infrastructure ...

It is also rich to hear "we cant do anything to stop these big isp companies" when they are all literally responding to a change in market due to a massive consumer habit change that forced them to tweak their whole fricking business model.....

Isps basically "i see your cord cutting and i raise you data caps, your call assholes"

Actually IPS didn't always have data caps, and the ones that did never enforced them. That was until they started loosing revenue with their cable tv.

So no one should be happy they raised it bc caps do nothing to improve the network

They used to be soft caps, meaning when you went over you got an email and that's about it. Now they are hard caps, meaning there are real consequences to going over.

How quickly will I see my data usage appear on the Data Usage Meter? Data usage is updated nightly and the Data Usage Meter reflects usage through the previous day. Occasionally, it may take longer to update your data usage on the meter. What time period does my data plan cover? Your data plan is based on a monthly usage cycle, and aligns closely to the start and end dates of your bill cycle. Usage cycle dates specific to your account are displayed on your Data Usage Meter. How can I increase my data plan? Coming soon, Cox is introducing additional data plans options, including an Unlimited data plan, if you need more than the 1 TB per month included in most Internet packages.

I'm very interested in this and hope it happens

Won't be cheap. The value of cord cutting is close to being a push. These companies adapt to change like roaches.

As angry i am about this cox data cap thing, i wish my isp gave me a TB on their basic plan.

I pay $100 a month and only get 700GB. If i go over three times in a year. They force upgrade my service to a higher tier to increase my cap. I already pay for speeds i dont need.

It wasn't capped with overages.. they have never had overage charges.. they have talked about the need for more data but never actually charged me..

Which is why they should offer customers with bundle unlimited imo

I pay a ton in cable alone with them and still use a ton of streaming/game downloading

Yep. Up until now, they would just throttle your speeds. Although, I'm not sure at what point they actually did that or how much they throttled you down.

I got a mailer from AT&T the other day about their fiber service and got excited. No doubt they were sending this out because of Cox's change in policy. I open it up and they have a 100 Mbps plan for $50/month if you sign up for a 2-year plan. This would save me around $20-25/month. Then I saw the fine print that it had a 1 TB cap with a $10 overage charge for an additional 50 GB of data. Same as Cox.

ATT only offer no cap if you get their gig down.

My ISP charges $175 a month for gig down service and still have 1.1 TB data cap

Cox Charging for Data Useage in home

The title is misleading. I thought it meant that they were openly going to start charging for data carried over home LANs. That would have really gotten me going.

Never thought id see the day id be thanking AT&T but that 1gbps and unlimited data for 80 bucks @ month is compared to comcast and cox adding those data caps Guess it pays to live in a larger city. I remember complaining when they dug up my front yard putting the fiber down. Knowing what i know now i should have been getting those guys some drinks
