a few years back i found an old hanger, old transformer, and some coaxial cable. Made an antenna following DIY guides on the ole interwebs. Put it in my attic. Have been watching HD channels for free since.

Yep..I made one myself too. Cost like $4 including shipping for my transformer and it kicks arse

To watch the SB, I used a homemade yagi antenna (lots of aluminum foil and coathangers – google is your friend) plus a signal booster (radio shack $20) to get OTA channels in HD, I also checked a cpl of addons for KODI and HD feeds of SB were easy to find. So sat TV and cable were not necessary
