Had the Creative Pebble speakers with my work computer, and they crapped out after several years. Looking for a replacement.

Computer station at my house, need to limit the number of cables at my desk. I've learned to appreciate ear buds for phone calls with clients, but I prefer speakers for music while I work. Don't need a subwoofer -- the old Pebbles that I had were plenty good.

I'm planning to replace with the Pebble Pro 2.0 for $50, which seems like a slam dunk. Any speakers that I might be overlooking?

If I didn’t want a sub, I would be inclined to get speakers with an extra passive driver for a bit more low range, but I’ll defer to the sound guys on here if that’s just all in my head and not necessary. But anyway, something like this: LINK

No need to fix what ain’t broke. For better music in the home office, if you want to splurge, you could get a standalone speaker like a Sonos One or Denon NV 150. The assistant-less NV 150 is what I use for tunes at home. I think it was $149. Then, the speaker is also nowhere near the rats nest of cables.

How would you use a Sonos as a computer speaker?

Maybe the new move that supports Bluetooth but I have Sonos all over and never considered trying to use one as computer speakers.

He’s using it for music, he said. Both brands allow you to point to local files on the network or to music services.

There’s also a DLNA “server” built built into Windows so your computer is discoverable by TVs, soundbars, etc as a music and video source. This means you don’t have to create a share \\MyPC\Music and navigate to it, you just tell the Sonos (I haven’t used the new interface that everyone bitches about) to find the DLNA server called MyPC. It’ll then display whatever it sees. Playlists can be tricky depending on what app you created them in, because a lot of the playlist formats are proprietary.

If i was doing that I'd just download a free copy of the Plex server and point it to my music files then use Plex
Amp as my controller or just link the account inside of the Sonos app and use that. I like the win amp visualizations in plexamp and it's easier to find stuff.

Been doing that for a decade and it's fantastic. Music in my car and at home on Sonos.
