File this under rural problems, but as per this board I recently switched to cellular (vs satellite) internet. 10000x better. Now I'm thinking of increasing capacity by adding a second modem. Main idea is to have the same access, but the kids can have multiple Netflix steams going too.

Easy idea is just to get second modem, throw a cheap router on it and have a second wifi setup and slide some hardware over to it. Downside would not having a second modem access on main wifi, and possibly some wifi interference from a second wireless network.

Real question is if there is a better way, a smart system that could divy up request from accross the main mesh to both modems. I have seen systems that have a primary and backup inputs, but they could not work at the same time. Please let me know if there is a solution here, or any more options. Thanks!

If you looked at business level equipment you would find something that would do maybe some load balancing. In your case, just set the wifi to different channels.

I can't imagine how much two satellite connections would run monthly

Unless things have changed you won't see any additional speed by binding two connections together. one packet would go on one link and next packet would go on the second. It's not worth the headache to setup. I'd do two networks.

was looking at more quality vs quantity but I agree with just setting up a second modem...what a weird situation

Wouldn't that send the price of equipment through the roof compared to consumer level 3 switches?

We have deployed some of the netgear nighthawk routers for our satellite sites. They seem to be working really well.
