I am looking to get my son (about to turn 10) a Chromebook for his birthday or Christmas. I'd prefer not to spend more than $300. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Similar request, though for a college freshman and a higher budget. Spent hours researching but I'll find one I like and it'll generally have great reviews and then I'll find several that'll say something like, "This is a terrible machine and nearly set my house on fire," and I back away.
Looked at this Asus...

He brought his PC we built back in December to the dorm with him, but he comes home on weekends to work near home and I want him to be able to still do work in Google Classroom or Moodle or whatever else web based stuff he's using so having a portable device would be great.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Got a couple of the entry level Samsung Chromebooks, I'm thinking less than $250 but that was a few years ago. Never had the 1st problem out of them.
